I haven't used LInux in over 30 years so I remember nothing and this new stuff is a real mystery to me.

I could sure use so help.

UDM appears to be successfully installed, the meter has been found. However, on the <Information> tab, <Details> <Version> it says This user is not part of the dialout group.

Here are some screen captures:

Continued next post due to file size.

And here is data I'm sure is needed:

Ultimately I'd like to cover the screen with rubylinth and set up the computer with meter near my observation site and have it take continuous reading and send them in.

Directions to achieve this will be most appreciated, the easier to follow, the better!

Thanks!

The dialout group allows access to several hardware IO sources. Back in the day that included modems. Assuming the user it's talking about is you here's what to do. If you have the 'Users and Groups' tool installed you can use it. It should be in the main menu ->System Tools->Administration->Users and Groups. If you want to use the command line in a terminal these instructions should work.

If unihedron has it's own user just add that user to the dialout group.

Thanks, I had it open but didn’t add myself because I guessed it meant the software needed to be part of the dialout group in order to access the ‘net.

I’ll try adding myself and see what happens.

You will need to log out and back in for any group changes to take effect. A reboot does the same thing.
