BTW, I have successfully connected both ASIAir app and SS7 through Bluestacks with my ASIAir. Works like a charm :)

I like very much the idea of the terminator. Indeed, this is an area of SS that needs improvements.

I would also appreciate more filtering options for observing lists.
Something like the very uswful Don's 500-best list can be overwhelming in the chart when all objects are highlighted. One could do different approaches, but if 3 hours at the telescope after a long day is all what you have in a month and no time to prepare lists, the easier the better.

Something I would like is the ability to search my logged observations as a database. In one CN forum someone asked how many comets I've seen.. I would be nice to see all the observations of comets I've logged.

When you select an observing list you have the ability to filter the list by “observed in this list” or “unobserved in this”.  But maybe this is not what you were looking for?

I would like to be able search all my observing lists as one database and use the parameters available when building observing lists.

Say I wanted to find all the galaxies fainter than magnitude 14, I had logged.

It would be inconvenient, but you could go into Planner, choose galaxy, set magnitude to 14.1 to 40 and then search all constellations to make an observing list.  You can then use the filter to display only those “observed in this list”.  You could limit it to the NGC catalog if the starting list is too large.  I’m not sure if there is a limit to the number of objects SS can put into an observing list.

That seems like it could be workable. I have made a list of all comets which seems to be 977.

Filtering it for observed only is my next challenge. I've seen it but I can't find it..

Edit:

I found it but it shows no objects observe. I guess the observation must be logged to that particular list.

I think going too much farther down the "database" type search in SS will be difficult because of the list oriented nature of the app.  It was quite the upgrade when they allowed lists to show only unobserved in any lists.

There are much better apps out there to do searches and to organize logs and to create lists.  SkySafari excels at use in the field where you already have a list.

They could add "show only observed in any list".

The advantage of SkySafari for me is that I can log my observations as an observing list. I have an observing list for each month and logging is integrated with the Sky Chart. I don't normally work from a list. I work from the sky chart. I have not found another app that runs on my tablets that integrates the logging and the sky chart features as well as Sky Safari.

Do you know of any?

Guys,

I just want to remind people that asking for new SkySafari features here is mostly pointless.  The SimCur team rarely looks at this forum.

If you really want to make a feature request, you need to use the "SkySafari Feature Requests" forum here:

https://support.simu...eature-Requests

It still may not get implemented but at least someone will see it.

Yeah...I suppose they could do that.  But from the use case of SkySafari I think that would mean show me only objects I've already seen because I want to look at them again.  But then how would you know that you had checked off one of those re-observed objects?

I don't know of any tablet or phone based app that does logs or lists better than SkySafari.  I'd look at Deep-Sky Planner or SkyTools for a better planning/logging tool.  Both of them can export to SkySafari.

All I want to know is what objects I've observed and to be able to sort them.

As I said, I mostly work from the sky view so my observing lists are mostly lists of observations rather lists of objects I want to observe. It's a different way of thinking..  I'm not checking off objects from a list, I'm making a list of objects I have observed. . Many objects are long term projects..

  Do you still have AstroPlanner?

If so export the Sky Safari observing list as a CSV.

Import into AstroPlanner and have at it with the better search engine.

My guess is you could probably export the list again as an observed list if you wanted to bring it back on your tablet.

The weird annotation:
In observing>scope display, when switching the FOV (you've setup there), one cannot slide the switches. That is, you can, visually the switch is changed, and still it is not processed, returning to the chart. One MUST switch with a single, quick pointing touch in order to be processed. Just a hint, in case you're wondering why it does not work. Well, good ole checkbox (as in v6) had its advantages ...

Maybe their excellencies deign to wade into the depths of this forum? rolleyes.gif  They might get in touch with the real user, and see what is asked indeed, instead of coding "features" nobody asked for.

As for the glorious simcur forum, I would not bet that something is read there. Lasting impression of that forum laying dead in the internet waters, to me, is that nobody gives a s*** for what is written there. I made it through the clumsy registration, did read the promise of an "elaborated" feedback system, but the only thing ever got back to me was a pile of advertisments.

regards

I have found this same issue. It's frustrating. It usually takes me repeated tries, 3, 4 or more to get it to take. I will try your single quick touch technique though realistically, it is probably not the easiest thing to do when I am wearing gloves with the tip cut off of the middle finger of my right hand to operate the device.

I just tested your technique on my Android phone.  It does seem to work.  No sliding, just a quick tap and it seems to work reliably.

I have not had AstroPlanner since way, way back when.. Searching the web, I see it was around 20 years ago.. It might be that long.  It might be worth looking at it again..

I may try Livesky and see if there is something I can do there.

I did check you can do it with AstroPlanner.

Its a bit circuitous but gives a result.

AstroPlanner and Sky Tools are still two of my staple programs

Thanks

I have Skytools 3 but haven't used it much recently.  In the high desert where I do much of my observing, I do everything on my smartphone and tablets, there is no computer as such.

I am using SkySafari 7 Plus to align my Celestron Nexstar 6se. The app will connect to the scope but I don't see the skewing arrows for fine tuning. Any thoughts?

That is what I thought but does not seem to work like I would think. I would expect it more spread out to clearly hit the up, down, left right buttons. Hitting that acts as one button and seems to try to automatically skew if the device is held flat. I think it is using the phones gyro to move the scope

I believe you probably have "Tilt to slew" enabled in the telescope settings.  With this mode you tap the 4 arrow icon to turn it on and then tilt the device to slew in different directions.  If you turn this option off in the settings, it should show you the more standard left, right, up, down buttons.

is there a direct method to search for beta monoceratoris (triple star system)?

i can find the constellation using search, but can't figure out how to search for the components that make up the constellation
