Greetings,

Well its been raining here for two days so I though I would test my sanity by installing Cartes du Ciel (Sky Charts) on my Linux Mint 20.2 PC.

Well, I have been unable to find any human readable documentation on how to install, CONFIG & run it.

Just trying to see if I can control my AZ Mount Pro via Wifi using Linux Mint.

Must be my old age but the entire process sure does not seem to be very "intuitive".

I would appreciate your suggestions, links to install/configuring/running documentation for Cartes du Ciel on Linux Mint.

Thanks!

I'm usually a windows user but I have tried Ubunto linux ages ago. Maybe these links could help you.

https://www.ap-i.net...art/en/download

And for ubunto : https://askubuntu.co...u-ciel-skychart

good luck

I tried skychart on linux recently and did not run into problems connecting to my gear. Maybe just show us where you are stuck ?

GOT IT!

Read the docs over several times and got it working by shear luck.

My Hiccups:

1. Could not find how to start "Cartes du Ciel"

    - After rebooting, found a new menu item named "Skychart"...doh!

2. Failed to connect to INDI server

    - Going over the docs found once again I saw a Terminal command: indiserver indi_lx200gps

    - OK, where is my mount driver?
    - Found that sneaky directory using "find" command

3. Did not know which Indi driver to use for my AZ Mount Pro

   - Finally saw a new menu item named: "INDIstarter"

   - Hit SETUP and GUESSED IOptron CEM60 since there was no AZ Mount Pro listing.

Started server then started SKYCHART and was able to connect & control my AZ Mount Pro,

"Oh, that was so easy even a ..... could do it"

NOT!

HOWEVER, the one positive note was I ran Linux Stellarium 21.2 and there in the telescope config was an INDI selection!

Who knew?

NOW with the INDI server running & the CEM60 driver selected, hit that button and connected to my AZ Mount Pro and visible target.

Bottom line:

Given the many variants of Linux, no wonder the installation process stinks. bangbang.gif
