Hey All,

I am starting this thread because I've completed the first step in restoring the subject telescope and mount. After removing the factory RA drive (and retaining all of the original pieces), I've installed an 11" Byers system on it.

Since the purchase of the scope earlier this year, I have not reassembled it.

I met with Ken at the Byers shop in Barstow and he converted a drive (I removed from a Cave Deluxe mount) to the Cave Observatory mount. It needed a new clutch (from 1.5" shaft to 2.4" shaft) and some machining on the backing plate.

Here it is installed on the mount:

I have a plexiglass cover, but I need to make a hole for the RA shaft to extend out so I can remount the setting circle.

I will repaint the mount housings and tube saddle and then test it before I start working on the optical tube.

This will be going into a roll-off-roof observatory I hope to build in the next year, or so.

David

Thanks for starting the thread.  I am going to follow your progress on this and your observatory construction.

Very nice. I had an 11" drive on my 12.5" Newtonian - worked like a charm!  Looking forward to more posts.
