This is a continuation of my previous thread https://www.cloudyni...fl-and-tec-frc/ .

I have processed M31 two different ways. The first one is minimal processing. The second one is same as minimal processing plus increase contrast and tame the core of M31.

Here is the first and original process:

1) RGB Combination

2) Minimal cropping to remove black borders due to dithering for both RGB and Lum

3) Dynamic Background Extraction for both RGB and Lum

4) Background Neutralization for RGB

5) Color Calibration for RGB

6) Histogram Transformation for both RGB and Lum

7) LRGB Combination

8) Curves Transformation using Sat and RGB/K

9) SCNR to remove green cast

Second processing. Added steps #7 and #8

1) RGB Combination

2) Minimal cropping to remove black borders due to dithering for both RGB and Lum

3) Dynamic Background Extraction for both RGB and Lum

4) Background Neutralization for RGB

5) Color Calibration for RGB

6) Histogram Transformation for both RGB and Lum

7) HDR Multiscale Transform (10 Layers) for both RGB and Lum

8) Local Histogram Equalization (Contrast Limit 2.0) for both RGB and Lum

9) LRGB Combination

10) Curves Transformation using Sat and RGB/K

11) SCNR to remove green cast

Which one do you like better?

Blink between the first 2 images at higher resolution at: https://peternagy.sm...copes/Galaxies/ . Click on 1st thumbnail and then click on right and then left arrow back and forth to blink.

I like the increased contrast of the second version, but would probably like a core treatment that is somewhere in between the two. In any event, wonderful first light image, Peter!
