Here's my BRASS Meade 314 that I purchased a bit over 4 years
ago from Maidhof Bros. Shipware Merchants in San Diego
It is a heavy thing and virtually all of the metal on this, including the
mount, is brass. There are no problems with this optically but... the
weight of the OTA overpowers and compresses the adjustment mount
springs. This causes the OTA to rock up and down
while attempting to view sky thingies The springs are one of the few
parts on this heavy beast that are not brass. These springs are rather
heavy duty so replacing them, if even available with stronger ones,
"might" solve the problem but eh...maybe later?.
I also have the much lighter and beautiful dark blue no brass model
which does not have these problems and is far more suitable to view
the mysteries above us.
On a "lighter" note there was a very large anvil about three plus feet long
sitting on the floor in this shop.I inquired about it, as I had always wanted
one, although not necessarily one that large. The owner (really good fella)
told me to try and lift it. Not a chance for ol' badback here. No, No, No!
Figured i give her a tilt though and WOW!!! This incredible anvil was in reality
an amazing, totally realistic looking uh...prop. Weighed about 5 pounds.
Laughs were heard in this brass kingdom, including my own.
This telescope was being sold because the owner decided that this
particular one wasn't really a maritime thingie. Lucky me.
He paid $100 for it but only charged me $75. Too much fun
...and it All fits in this container
