I don't know how it could work anyway, since I always have to turn off cellular to get my phone to connect to the telescope (both on iphone and android).

the new update does not apply to me because my iPad Pro does not have cellular, the only way it would work is if Vaonis introduced a sta mode where I could be connected to the internet while operating vespera. It was a nice thought but imagine many are in that same boat

My iPhone (15) has always connected fine, leaving cellular on.

It's worth reading the release notes, particularly the part about the AI hallucinating: i.e. it may give "information" that is incorrect or even fictitious. That's true of all current LLM models. I'm willing to try it, but I won't trust it.

Incidentally, there are errors and a lot of irrelevance in the on-screen commentaries already.

Seems like you always have to question a.i. to get it to do a deeper dive for anything you could trust as factual, however it was a noble effort and I’m sure it will evolve just like the rest

With just an IPad I would highly entertain Affinity Photo, it can be purchased in the App Store. I am not sure about the IPad version but the desktop version has a lot of stuff geared towards Astro photography.

I use it for stretching, photomator also does well on iPad for levels adjustments… also AstroEdit is making pretty good progress on iOS, you still need a laptop for great processing but iPad is becoming more capable

Hello all, I just bought a used Vespera (1/classic) and it's working well for astrophotography.

A few questions: Is there a way to shoot video of the moon (e.g. for ISS transits)?

Is there a way to use it in the daytime (scenery mode?)

Are there any Vespera specific forums I should be subscribing to? (I found a Vespera II one on FB, but so far nothing Vespera classic specific)

Thanks,

Jay

The “My Singularity” group on FB is the Vaonis sponsored group that covers all the Vaonis smart scopes including the Vespera Classic.

No daytime capability except solar, and it’s unlikely you would be able to capture iss transits because you really need a video mode to do that, possible they could add later but doubtful, they just did not design it for video or daytime use

Is there a way to "Reset" the Vespera II??

Lately the picture quality has been going downhill.....I installed the latest Singularity updates but that did not help.

I remember that originally it quickly took bright stars pics, and after just a few frames it was really bright, now it takes forever and there is no noticeable increase in brightness, the lenses are not dirty.....

Sometimes it states even in a dark night.....your telescope can not generate an image of this object....it is able to track and to go there....but then ...capture starting.....and stays there.....

Yesterday I also noticed that the stars where not in focus, I mean they looked like little donuts......

Sometimes it will not reinitialize after an observation and gets stuck in "starting autofocus".....I have to turn it on and off and then it will initialize and the autofocus will work.....

.....weird.....what may be wrong??

Much of the behavior you are describing could be explained by a failing focus motor / linear motion assembly (where it mostly is still working, but sometimes doesn't move correctly or all the way, leading to out of focus stars (dim and larger) and may give problems with plate solving, etc if it is badly out of focus.  Could be "grit" or something interfering with the motion, or a motor that is failing for some reason, or some type of loose/floppy attachment point that's flexing or moving more/less than it should.

But I have no suggestions for how to debug/diagnose that more.

The stark silhouette of Barnard's E stands in contrast to the dazzling multitude of stars that illuminate the deep space beyond. A testament to the incredible density of our galaxy.  Vespera Pro, CovalENS 3.2 x 3.2, no filter, no moon, 3.2 hours of 10 second subs with multi night mode.  BalENS and Darks enabled.  Final tiff stretched/processed with Pixinsight.

This is an ideal target for the Vesperas. I got a pleasing image (albeit with noisier background) by doing a non-mosaic 30 minutes from Bortle 5 with my Vespera 2.

I'm enjoying going after groups of galaxies (e.g. Leo Triplet) rather than single ones, which are often tiny in the Vespera's big field.

Alright, I'm sure I'm late to the "create your own DIY Dual Band Filter Holder party", but I wanted to thank the original author  ( @aureliend2000 ) of the STL file on Thingiverse: https://www.thingive...m/thing:6749658

Here is a video I made showing how I made mine.

https://youtu.be/6jp_qvNb17Q

Comparison of a 48min exposure without the DB filter of the Rosette Nebula (from Bortle 7.5):
48min-without-filter-small.jpg

With a 48 min exposure WITH the SvBony SV220 dual band filter:
48min-exposure-with-dual-band-filter-small.jpg

Considering I already had the SV220 filter, a 3D printer, and a 24k Ohm resistor "in stock" I'm very pleased with the ability to use a dual band on the Vespera without spending (any more) money.

After my success with the Dual Band filter holder, I bought some BAADAR AstroSolar film, and made a solar filter for the Vespera as well.  I enjoyed playing with the Singularity software ("what would the sun look like from other planets") visualization and took a few photos of the big sunspot.
image_1746481011745.jpg

It doesn't look as nice as the OEM filter, but since my only outlay was the $40 for the solar film, the cost was right!
diy-solar-filter-600x600.jpg

A 4.6 kOhm resistor triggered the solar filter detection on the Vespera.

solar-filter-detected-400x400.png

The quality was at least as good as my Zwo S50 with their provided solar film filter (perhaps a little sharper? I didn't do a side by side comparison).

As I don't have the $180 Vespera filter I can't compare them, but from the photos online it looks like they use a similar solar film, so I would expect the output to be about the same.

I'm happy I made one, but the fact that the Vespera doesn't allow you to shoot video of the sun means that the utility is limited. (other than taking photos, I mostly try to capture ISS / Hubble transits of the sun/moon...a task that the Vespera's lack of a video mode really puts the kabosh on...)

If you want to see all the construction steps (or see what the app looks like in solar mode, I have a screen capture at the end of the video) you can watch it here:

I have a couple of questions about the Vespera II:

In the Singularity app, is there a way to delete one's location, especially when it shows up five or six times?

The hygrometer is installed, but I get a "no sensors detected" message. Has anyone run across this?

I don't believe there is a way to have the app NOT display your location in the GUI (It needs to know your location to calculate where the stars are for you).  If you go into your profile (person icon on bottom right of the app) then go into the three dot menu (top right) and then select "Parameters" you can disable "Send usage data" which will presumably keep your location data from being sent to Vaonis over the internet, but I don't know of any way to keep it from showing up in the App.

The hygrometer is installed, but I get a "no sensors detected" message. Has anyone run across this?

Sometimes it takes a second or two to detect/read the Hygrometer, so there may be a very brief delay in the GUI before it shows up....but if you have never seen that "no sensors detected" message change to the humidity & temp numbers, it means that the hygrometer is either not installed fully/correctly, or not working.   I'd recommend unscrewing it (assuming you have the special [torx?] screwdriver that came with the install kit] and then putting it back in.

Here is the only instructions Vaonis provides:

Attached File  Hygrometric-sensor-EN.pdf   165.03KB   7 downloads

Which I downloaded from https://Vaonis.com/documents

I also made an "unboxing & install" video when I added mine:

Vaonis has a "spring sale" with discounts on scopes and accessories. Vespera II has $100 off, Pro is $300 off, bundles with filters save more, hygrometer is $89, and they have the short Gitzo tripod for $299.

https://vaonis.com/c...ns/spring-sales

Saw the sale prices at B&H, MileHigh, etc too.

So is there a better way to process mosaic fit files ??

I ask because I am trying to image M24 and as it’s quite low, there is a 100% change that tress will obscure the view of my Vespera Pro. Previously, the mosaic tiff file generated will have dark sections in the corners caused by trees getting in the way. The Singularity software doesn’t delete these frames.

I've tried a few time to stack a mosaic but without sucesss - it’s not that easy trying to stack a “standard” view set of fit files in Pixinsight either.

There must be a simple way to stack Singularity mosaic fit files, bearing in mind there seems to be multiple methods for the SeeStar eg Siri’s scripts.

Seestar writes coordinates into each Fit and Vespera does not. I was told that Siril latest edition allows stacking by plate solving each frame so maybe if you find and use that option you may be able to stack mosaic. I never tried and probably will not do it. Reasons:

1) platesolving each image will be very slow and super slow on my old mac
2) I will want to keep all the Fits forever and that will require additional storage:-)
3) My Vespera 2 has only 10G of space. I have 5 multi-night projects. I like to run the scope overnight. I am not sure there will be space on the scope to store Fits.
4) People who managed to stack manually did not see much improvement over the Tif done by the scope….
