M objects weren't impressive with my 8 incher, but double star Almach (Gamma Andromeda) was a delight-

Sorry for being asleep (I live in Japan) when you were asking the questions about the cable but glad you guys worked it out :-)
You could sort of think of it as a CPC, but actually, the version 4 hand control was first introduced on the last few months of production of the NexStar 8/9.25/11 GPS. The CPC replaced them and was introduced with the version 4 hand control; since replaced by the NexStar+ (version 5) hand control.
If you need any help with the newer version 4 features, download my "Hand Control Version 4 User's Guide" from here:

For what it's worth, when people use my HomeBrew Wifi adapter with really old "GPS 8" (and "GPS 11") mounts, the firmware in the HomeBrew pretends to be a CPC when communicating with SkySafari, SkyPortal and CPWI. All works fine that way.

The 2.2 and 2.2 on the second line of the version display on an HC 2.2 hand control are the versions for the GPS module and serial board (off top of my head I don't remember which is which). Those versions are actually good news since they indicate your mount will work with the NexStar+ hand control. BUT - you must first get the MC updated to 4.06.

Thanks again Mike
Since I robbed the V4 HC from my CPC for the GPS upgrade, I will ( as the weather allows some use ) evaluate the features of the Nexstar+ that I purchased for my CPC and have on my little 6se and make decision to Stand or Proceed.
After reading several threads of comparison, and your page with warning of problems. I'm leaning toward staying with V4.

Stick with the v4 hand control as long as it works. I prefer it due to the direct list access for Messier, NGC, etc. It is just comforting to know the NexStar+ is an option if your v4 dies.
