My new to me Sky Chief Junior.  It needs cleaning and some missing parts replaced.  Much mildew.  Hoping for the best.

<BOL> I've seen a lot of similarities with <SYW> so it should be pretty good.

But this probably isn't the thread for this scope, this thread is specifically for the 60x800 scopes with no maker mark that we've determined most of which were Towa before the circle T made its appearance in ~1962.

bol = bushnell optical laboratories, a bushnell owned japanese export company that appeared in the mid to late 1950s and carried on into the 1970s.  virtually all bushnell binoculars from that period have a bol export mark.  it is similar to the swift international mark used after swift set up its own export house in japan.  it does not tell you who made the telescope.

Probably? You're being too polite. Definetly not the right thread.

In any case I can see that the finder is mounted on the focuser (SYW didn't do that), so it's most likely made by APL.

Let's end at this and have him start another thread if we are to continue on this scope.

Wow, I am mistaken that I posted in the Wrong thread.

I have deleted my Post.

Wes

Edit:  I apologize and will look for a more appropriate thread or start my own as was recommended.

I have got a beautiful black tube 60 x 800, Celestron, and it says made in Japan on the drawtube, nothing else. I have wondered if it was made by Vixen, it has not got the Circle V logo, just made in Japan. It resembles the old C-80, with the pretty Orange logos on the tube. Does anyone know if it was a vixen scope, or who else could have made it.

Sounds like the Vixen made C60/13.3, pretty sure yours is Vixen made.  If it says C60 that is the alt-az model.  I have one, saw the absolute best viewing of Saturn and its bands and especially the Cassini division with mine.  Excellent optics.  If I could find another one in nice shape I'd buy it.

I'm late to the 60x800 party but I found one which looks interesting, but it's about a 12 hour drive away, I'm not sure that it's worth the drive and shipping would be pricey.

Has anyone seen one of these? I know the circle K has been mentioned, I just can't find the comment again.

Your thoughts?

Thanks

Kenko, but with a mark I haven't seen. Focuser says early 1960s. Looks well made!
