Thanks!! Okay, then. Here are a couple more. Observing conditions look pretty good tonight, so I'm hoping to bag a few more. For these, the skies were pretty transparent and the seeing was around 3/5. Bortle 4.5 to 5. For M57, it seemed to float in a somewhat sparse star field, and the central star was visible but more with averted vision. It seemed somewhat obscured. This image is a white on black revision of my black on white original sketch, since M57 won't be back for a while. For M42 the whole thing leaped out, but the more gossamer elements came into view with time and averted vision. All four of the Trapezium stars were clear even at medium magnification.
