This is a very doable project for someone with tools and some skill using them. Lots of references online and here on Cloudynights.
In my opinion, Mead 10" with the fork is heavy enough that building with plywood probably isn't rigid enough - but again, are you planning on visual or photography ? Suggest aluminum, or steel if you have the tools which can cut, drill, tap, manipulate it. Nice thing about aluminum is that most wood working tools will work on it, and it's lighter when you carry it around. Downside - not as stiff.
