Hmm interesting. Not really interested since the AZ-GTi pretty much does the same thing and is a lot smaller. Hopefully they will announce something more compelling, like a strain wave variant of the AZ-GTi!

Interesting, I knew they were announcing a new mount...  but thought it would be a harmonic drive like everyone else.

The price is right and is a nice portable mount, I bet the Star Adventurer GTi will be a hit.

Very interesting. I wonder what the tracking and guiding performance will be compared with the azgti. Especially since this seems to be an eq dedicated version of the azgti, not an experimental feature.

Super interesting! By looking at the images I can notice what looks to be a USB port, AUX and Hand Controller port?

looks little heavy and bulky. sort of somebody bolted a az gti to a star adventurer. Interestingly it also shows a low latitude configuration which will be nice and we wont have to find 3P adapters to use the az gti at 1 deg north.

But I would be happy with a better wedge. The current gti is much lighter and has the same max load capacity as shown in the advertisement.

Interesting... but...

Its like cars: the next generation of a certain model is getting bigger and fatter and shifts quietly to a higher class...

For now i will stay with my 4 penlights driven 1st gen SA.

Does anyone know if the new SA GTi mount has GoTo capability?  The ad shown above does not state that it has it, but I've seen comments implying that it does have GoTo.

Thanks!  I tried clicking on the EN option for this page but only a few of the words seem to get translated.  I learned German many years ago but have not had the opportunity to use it, so am not fluent.

Anyway, as OP already requested, if anybody has this mount, I would be interested in hearing what you think of it...

It's on the sky-watcher website now, which should indicate a more official release shortly.

I have been looking for a replacement for my AZ-GTi for some time, this might be interesting. It's a pity it is not rated for a slightly higher load. I hope the software has been completely rewritten (probably not) as the AZ-GTi was/is full of bugs.

One thing I do hope they fix vs the azgti is the motor assemblies. The ones in the azgti wobble so bad makes Dec guiding almost impossible.

The one other observation is that this looks awfully close to the smartest pro in terms of size. Not sure the weight but it's probably close also. Hopefully the internals are better than the smarteq pro, which suffers from large backlash also.

What I don’t understand about this mount is why it has the same weight capacity as the AZ-GTi and not more. I’m not sure this is an upgrade at all!

Probably because the RA motor and gears are the same as the SA. The only improvements are DEC control and go-to. For the price difference that's pretty reasonable actually. The smarteq pro is in the same price range.

Looks to be an SA with a Dec motor and rudimentary goto added. Backlash and PE will govern. Internals on my SA2i were very poorly machined and assembled.

The reported specs for the RA drive don’t match those for the standard SA but do match those for the EQM-35.  This would be an upgrade over the standard SA.

I like that you don't need a wedge, which has always been the weakest when it comes to the SA or GTi.

Won't be available until summer in USA.

The price is "ok" I guess.. with the kit, I assume it includes the beefier tripods than the AZ-GTi has, which is a weak point (I have it).

$740.00 (US)

https://www.skywatch...r-gti-mount-kit

Still 11lbs only, which means it's still small refractors and light camera setup.  Anyone with the AZ Gti, (which I bought for ($400 2yrs ago) I'm not sure it worth to buy it.

Could be a nice mount to replace my Astrotrac for milky way shots :)
