According to Stephen (Stargoat):  "The Gold Oval w/ Red PASSED was used in 1961, 1964, 1966 and 1973."

Why the gaps?  We don't know... yet.  [It could be Sample Bias -- we simply don't have enough scopes Registered to account for all the Exceptions.]

IIRC, there are more 6333-A models than 6333, but both versions are TOWA (T).

Technically there are 3 types of gold ovals with no gaps between them. The first two are kind of hard to tell apart

He seems to be referencing Eyepieces more than Scopes.  None of the scope ovals that I've owned used BLUE Lettering.  They used BLACK -- like my 1964 Sears 6336,  So... maybe JTII used alternating ink color for different years; or, different ink color for the export type (scope vs. accessory); or, they used whatever color the sticker printer had on hand...

Also:  Some of the older imports had both a JTII Sticker on the Scope, and a JTII Badge (circular paper disk) inside the case -- on its reverse side, a LETTER + up to 5-digit number.  The Letter correlates to year made (B being older than F, and F being older than M, for example).

Stephen has a huge dataset -- a folder for each old scope containing pictures, copies of receipts, etc. -- and spent years verifying dates.  An amazing amount of work!  Anywho, I have to defer to him on JTII stuff.  But, I will add the pix & info from Blake Andrews' thread to the Registry -- the more info, the better!

I kind of doubt there's much or any dating problem when comparing eyepieces stickers to those on telescopes.

Especially since, overall the dates of the various sticker in the eyepiece thread seem like they agree with Stephen

( I'm going from memorty so I'd have to go back and read both to make sure that's completely true)

Here's what Stephen says. It's a little hard to follow so it needs to be read carefully

Like I say, Stephen's done a lot of work!

Eyepieces get passed around more often; and, there are fewer dated receipts / other documents for them.  TBH, I don't have a whole lot of dated receipts for telescopes.

Stephen suggested that the JTII Stickers started around 1959, and I can confirm that bit.  The Space Scope 151 that I had was purchased on 4/22/1957 (I had the original receipt from The Akron).  No Sticker, but the JTII Badge was in the case, # B 7123; and, it had a date using the Imperial System, that translated to Winter, 1956 -- which agrees with the purchase date -- it was sold a few months after being made.

Unfortunately, TOWA didn't use serial numbers, so we have to look at other traits to determine when the scope was made...

My Swift Aerolte 859 (Carton) has a sticker that indicates it's a 1969-70 model.

I checked all of the the Carton catalogs I could find and found some models close in features but not as old.

Later I found a Swift ad with the exact model being advertised in a 1980 S&T.

It's hard to understand what to make of this.

I always thought it looked more like a product from the mid to late '70s or early 80's than one from '69-70.

BTW, it also has metal tripod legs.

Your focuser looks identical to my Carton sold in Germany in 1976.

There's a really cheap one on Ebay right now for only $334.57 but you do get free shipping :-) It's a model 6333-A. I'm not sure what the difference is.

Depends on the year. The 1964 Sears 6333A was the only year the universal camera adapter was included with the scope for free. I have one of those.

I saw the photo of this scope with an owner's manual.   I recently purchased one from eBay but unfortunately, it turned out to be incomplete.

I have since purchased parts to replace the missing parts but the one thing I  lack is an owner's manual.

Can anyone help me obtain a copy of this telescope's owner's manual?

Thank you.

Depends on the year. A 1964 6333A includes the free camera adapter. That was one of those adapters that clamped around the lens of a point and shoot camera to center the lens in the tube so you could take photos of what you are seeing. That model had a green tube and a blue dew shield and the circle T logo on the label. It was the only year that Sears included the camera adapter for free. I stumbled onto one of these about 5-6 years ago on CL. It had a damaged dewshield but everything else was mint even the Styrafoam was in good shape. I got it for a ridiculous $15. Always wondered if the other  non-A 1964 models had the space in Styrafoam for the camera adapter.

Here's one you can print out while you look for an original manual:
