Since I also have CUDA 12.2 (the latest), would it be better to move CUDA 12.2 up higher in the Environmental variables?  (e.g. can CUDA 12.2 use TF 2.9.0?)

hm, i don't know. i think TF might be pegged to a certain version of CUDA because i have read a lot of people's posts talking about searching for just the right CUDA version to get TF working.

StarnetV2 has been a game changer for me! The ability to be able to process the target separate from the stars has made a huge difference. SN has worked extremely well. Actually never used V1 so can't compare but SN2? Love it!

I have to be careful to not overprocess the target...just because I can without the stars.... Not always successful as the final is a little over done...but I like it.

SN2 no longer appears in my PI Processes after I reinstalled the latest PI Win10 64bit.

I recently downloaded Bill Blanshan's ScreenStars script, and it worked nicely.  Later when I was trying BXT on a linear/mono image it hung up, and I terminated PI.  Afterward, ScreenStars script was no longer showed in PI Scripts.  I looked in the script folder and ScreenStars was still there, but would not show in PI.  I then tried uninstall/reinstall ScreenStars, and still no luck.  So, I reinstalled PI, and afterwards ScreenStars again was there, but SN2 process was gone.

Also, now BXT seems to run MUCH slower than before, 7.5 mins on QHY268 mono master, and does not use my RTX3070Ti (0% CUDA usage in Task Manager).

What is going on?

This happened again, though with only the normal Repository update.  Everything was working great, with both SN2 and BXT working very fast using the GPU.  I closed and reopened PI, and a couple of Repositories were updated (BXT to 1.1.17 AI2, and another script).  Afterwards, neither SN2 or BXT are using the GPU, and things go from running in seconds to minutes.

I have checked my PI bin folder, and it still has the updated tensorflow.dll (2.9.0) and my CUDA 11.8 folder does not look to be changed.

I have emailed Russ Croman, and he double-checked the latest BXT update, and everything was fine.  Russ also said that BXT updates do not change anything in PI bin directory.

I remedied the lack of GPU utilization, but actually do NOT know how exactly.

I closed PI, and recopied the tensorflow.dll (2.9.0) into the PI bin folder, even though it seemed to still have the correct file (by file date and file size).  I also removed CUDA 12.2 from my Environmental Variables, even though it was in there when it was working last week.

Upon reopening, BXT is using the GPU, and I assume SN2 will as well.

The latest PixInsight update removes Starnet and breaks Starnet 2. Don't upgrade if you use Starnet.

Just updated PI to 1.8.9-2 and SN2 no longer there, but I do believe it is removed by any reinstall of PI.  So I recopied

StarNet2-pxm.dll

StarNet2_weights.pb

into the PI bin folder, but PI still does not recognize SN2.

I also copied the tensorflow.dll 2.9.0 into the bin folder, as that is necessary to use GPU acceleration.  With this Blur Exterminator is running fine using the GPU.

Yea Stanet has to be recompiled for it to work. All 3rd party tools have to be recompiled.

Hi all,

I'm trying to install Deep_SNR (update version, since Starnet 2 is installed already) into the latest version of PI. Similar to my experience with Starnet 2, PI finds it in the Update Modules, but does not successfully install it in Mac OSX "Sonoma".  Since this occurs, should I install the DeepSNR-pxm.dylib and DeepSNR_weights.pb into the Pixinsight>>"show package contents">>/Contents/Frameworks folder as we do with Starnet 2? The read.me file says only to install the Starnet 2 files there, but they already are as evidenced by a working Starnet 2 installation.

Clear Skies,

Paul

if PI finds the module, the module dylib is in the right place, and actually i think the module does start properly or else PI would not even show it in the module update dialog.

not sure why it would then not actually install when you ask it to...

Hi pfile,

Thanks for responding....I tried both highlighting the newly found module (DeepSNR) and not highlighting it...it still does not install, i.e.....

Installing 1 module(s):
/Applications/PixInsight/bin/DeepSNR-pxm.dylib
<* failed *>
*** PixInsight API Error: Module: /Applications/PixInsight/bin/DeepSNR-pxm.dylib: Module initialization error: Exit code: 1
** Warning: No modules were installed.

I could try to download the full installation version and replace the tensor flow files again, but I'm scared that it would effect my working Starnet 2.

Clear Skies,

Paul

Starnet 2 doesn’t work on the latest version of PI. I don’t think anyone has it working.

i guess i have to try installing deepsnr for myself. there is a chance that it doesn't work on sonoma - there are a lot of problems with PI running on sonoma that are still unresolved.

you are correct to try highlighting and not highlighting because that is another known bug that even russ croman reported to juan and he hasn't fixed it.

it should be working? it was recompiled to work with 1.8.9-2, which required everyone to recompile their modules.

I've just downloaded the experimental CLI StarNet2 for MacOS.  If it hasn't been noted, I found that the installation from the readme.txt didn't work straight away - for me anyway.

It seems that you need to be pathed to to the installation folder first.  But install.sh doesn't copy StarNet2_weights.pt.  After getting that out of the way it seems to work well .. well pretty amazing actuallyI.

I am running on an 8GB M1 MacBook Air with macOS Sonoma 14.2.1.  I am using Siril 1.2.1 and am just learning about the app and don't think I am qualified to pass any judgment but to my eyes it looks really good.

Cheers,

Hunlon.

I like it a lot but it can be overdone easily if you go too extreme.

I must be the only person having this problem.  Every time I use StarNet++ from CLI or Windows GUI, my PC crashes and restarts.  I downloaded the Command Line Tool (or GUI, doesn't matter) from https://www.starnetastro.com/download and put it somewhere on my computer.  Path is set properly, nothing like that.  I can run the program just fine with no input.  I can run the program fine with invalid input (FIT file instead of TIFF for instance).  But as soon as I run the program either manually or via Siril, it does something for a split second and then my machine crashes.  I have no idea what it's actually saying before it crashes because it happens too quickly.

I'm thinking my next step it to run it in a VM or to video my screen and see if I can capture the output.

Has anyone else had Windows 10 Pro crashing problems?

So I did a video.  Took a screenshot of just before it crashed.  I got no useful information.  I checked CPU-Z and confirmed that my CPU has AVX2 enabled.  Both of those are attached.  I'd really like to give this a go, but I can't crash my computer every time.  :-)  Any thoughts?

Launch windowd event viewer and check out the application logs for the crash info. Might be in the system event log too

I checked event logs.  Since it's a CLI, it runs under Command Prompt and there is nothing in the logs to indicate that there is anything happening other than the startup messages after the crash that say an unexpected reboot occurred.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled Starnet++.  My next attempt will be to run it in a VM and see if I can glean any information that way, but I would really like to make use of the program and I can't keep crashing my computer every time I try.  It simply takes forever to start back uplol.gif

As a quick aside, I can run the Linux executable (downloaded from the same page) on a VM without any problem, but I can't test on a Windows VM because all my Windows VMs are 32-bit Windows 7 and it tells me version of Starnet++ that I have is not compatible with the version of Windows that I have.  But I don't see an option to download a 32-bit version of the program.  So I guess I'll have to do the incredibly awkward step of doing image pre-processing in Sirl, saving the image as a TIF, copying that to a Linux box, running Starnet, then taking the starless and starmask files back to Windows to recombine manually and continue in Siril.

Hello
I am using the pixinsight 1.08.05 program, downloaded the starnet version 2.1.0 plugin and put the contents in the bin folder, but when I put the search option in the modules, it does not find anything, the cpu also supports avx, what should I do?

Pixinsight v1.8.5 was released in August 2017. Seems that you are using an outdated version. The current version is v1.8.9-2 (build 1605).

Updates to the PixInsight core application are not installed automatically. You'll have to go to the software distribution website ( https://pixinsight.com/dist/ ), log in with your username and password (which are different from username and password for the PixInsight Forum!), download the installer and follow the update instructions.
