Hi, everyone!

I was made aware that threads in Vendor Announcements, which I was using to get feedback and receive help requests, should only be used for announcements, so I've decided to create a couple of threads here, in Experienced Deep Sky Imaging. Not sure how far this will go.

This thread is for help requests: any technical issues, installation problems, etc.

The thread for experience share is here: https://www.cloudyni...perience-share/

Is there no longer a way to add V2 to pixinsight?  I can only find the stand alone version.

I have already installed and used your v2 on Windows version of Pix, but I'm now trying to install it also on my kubuntu distro. I have copied all the files into the /opt/PixInsight/bin folder but when I launch Pix, it doesn't seem to recognize the new module.

I have also tried to manually add it using "Processes/Modules/Install modules/ but nothing appears :(

Do you have some hints? thanks a lot

It is not as obvious as some people think.......

Be sure to download the "PixinSight Extension" version..... using the link I have circled in blue below (for Windows----if you have a different system, use that).

Then you need to do the stuff in Pixinsight to activate it.

I've been using Starnet 2 just a bit. Tonight twice, while using it, I started a process, and watched a few seconds of it. Then I opened the browser to pass the time. Next I looked, Pixinsight had disappeared. I restarted PI and the starnet2 process. It happened again. So, third time, I started it but just kept PI on top---no internet browsing. It completed the process fine. Interesting that a little browsing was enough to knock it off track.

I folks,

I was excited to have the new Pixinsight update 1.8.9 with the improved WBPP sub grading and GHS-2 stretching, but now lost every version of StarNet. I can't seem to get Pixinsight to automatically recognize the StarNet 2 files and/or in the 'Install Modules' /applications/pixinsight/bin folder - (StarNet2-pxm.dylib) or the Library folder (StarNet2_weights.pb) I think the files are all installed properly.

I should be able to run StarNet2 right? I'm on the Mac side with a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15", Mid 2015) i7 quad core processor.

I wish StarNet2 was part of the Pixinsight update install and work with the EZ Suite... Do I need to purchase StarXterminator to have my workflow back? StarNet2 was working great under 1.8.8-12

Fingers crossed...thanks for any help!

Try using the hardware-appropriate script from this post.

Same here - and also considered that having a browser open a possible culprit. PI still crashed - just as Sn2 was completing its process (97%...98%...99%...boom).

More than anything it's been a painful reminder to always save my work.

Lol, I see v1 library in your screenshot, so it is there apparently. Does it work? Do you see it in the list of processes?

Also, did you try running CLI version on that system? Are you sure you can run any version of starnet there? It could be that your CPU just does not support AVX.

Yeah, there is some problem with PI crashing after starnet is done, but no one reported that being dependent on doing something else on their computer yet... I wasn't able to figure out why this could be happening or even reproduce this problem on my system(s), so I guess we will have to wait till PI team takes a look at it when they will be making v2 part of the distribution.

Strange thing...as I haven't installed V1 separately! Is it included in the Pix installer?

No versions of starnet is available on modules list....by the way, I can run Starnet on PC version of Pix with the same pc, so the cpu couldn't be the problem. Maybe there is something wring with the kubuntu distro?

I have to tell that I have installed the Nvidia drivers instead of the standard one.

No others with linux here? frown.gif

Back up in Post 6, there is a screenshot of the download page. It seems to imply there is a Linux version for PI. What is actually in the link, I do not know.

great Alex, thanks! I did not realize about the release; must be very recent. Well in fact the README file is dated from 12th march.
I've just installed and works fine.

thanks!

Anyone find a way to do a star mask in the standalone version of V2? It was in V1, but seems to only be in the pixinsight addon now...

Just put the original in one layer in your favorite editing program, then put the starless image in the top layer, and make the top layer a "difference" layer which should reveal the difference between the two, meaning, Stars shown, then just combine that into a new layer, and change your starless layer back to normal, and you should have your original, your starless, and your stars..

Clear Skies !!

Hi,

Many thanks, great release!

One question: does the neural network implementation support multiple GPUs in SLI ?

CS !

Good question! The only way to be sure is to try and run it) However, tensorflow should be able to run on multiple GPUs even without SLI, so there are no fundamental problems here!

I am running PixInsight on MAC OS BigSur (11.2.3) on a MacBook Pro with M1 chip. My PixInsight is 1.8.9 Ripley build 1544 released 2022-03-13.  I installed the PixInsight today.

I downloaded Starnet and have placed the contents of the folders in the PixInsight/bin folder.

When I go to Modules/Install Modules.  the FIRST TIME PixInsight informs me that StarNet2-pxm.dylib cannot be opened because it is from an unrecognized vendor.  So I go the the MAC OS System Preferences and authorize access to StarNet2-pxm.dylib.   (this is routine for vendors not recognized by apple).

But subsequent attempts to install through the Modules/Install process fail to find Starnet.  Search returns no results.  Browse does "see" the StarNet2-pxm.dylib, but it is greyed out.

I don't seem to be able to get thru MAC securty.  How do I do this?
