First night out and the PHD calibration didn't flip with the mount after a meridian flip, first time I've had a mount do that, anyone else had this issue?

I can set it in PHD to flip it, just want to make sure this is intended as all my other mounts never needed that set.

After setting the flip dec command it seemed to work OK.

Here is first light for the mount, guided at .5-.6 with a tripod I know wasn't level so not bad.

Starlancer,

That’s a really nice image of the rosette!  I was wondering what scope and camera you used for that image.

This is what I am looking forward to after the winter weather clears.  Single digits and third day of sleet.  T_T

Hi Jasonn,

That is a very nice image of the Rosette Nebula.  The stars look really good, how long were the sub exposures for this?

I see you have the AM5 listed in your signature.  How does the performance of the NYX101 compare to it?  Would you mind sharing your PHD guiding file for this?

Thanks,

Don

It was taken with my AT92 flattened but not reduced, camera is a 2600mm with Antlia 4.5nm edge filters. Subs were 20x180sec, I'd like to take more but trees get in the way.

I do have an AM5, I've always had two mounts one smaller and one larger, I've sold both my traditional CW mounts and replaced them with strain waves.  The Pegasus will eventually be mounted on my tripier for larger setups but for now I have it on the Zwo tripod.

As for the two the NYX-101 is definitely beefier then the AM5. Software wise Zwo has them beat, the AM5 was running perfect the same day I received it.  I still cannot get AltAz mode on the Nyx to work correctly, it always seems 180 degrees off.  I had NINA crash twice which I rarely have happen so maybe it was Unity?  I do have to update NINA so I can't really say anything yet.

I've only had the Nyx out one night so I can't really speak of guiding as a comparison but was just as good as the AM5, maybe a hair better. I'll post a log when I get home from work.

Thanks for the update!  It does appear that ZWO had a smoother rollout which was certainly helped by being closely tied to the ASIAir.  I use both ASIAirs and NINA.  I like the simplicity and ease of use of the AA but I have recently been using NINA and I do like its flexibility and in-depth details as it has helped me to troubleshoot issues with a G11.  I'm glad to hear that the guiding is on par with the AM5 which has been successful right out of the gate.  I hope that Pegasus can get a handle on software issues and it sounds like eventually ZWO will solve their issue with running the NYX101.

I want to get a strain wave mount for portability reasons and I prefer the NYX101 but I want to make sure that its performance is at least equal to the AM5, if not better.

Thanks again,

Don

Beyond weight capacity they are similar in performance though I would suggest the software will most likely be more mature with Zwo as they write quite a bit also if you plan on using asiair.

Was out again last night and scope or unity seemed to have the incorrect time stored as plate solving was way off, had to restart to fix and this morning the scope was in some position that wasn't home.

Are these game stoppers? No, but in winter when it's 4 degrees out it's not fun to mess with. The AM5 has been pretty much perfect out of the box. I will most likely switch back over to the AM5 for now as that was my intention for winter and hope the unity platform matures before spring so I can load it up with my APM140 and C9.25 on my tripier.

I hope Pegasus Asto reads the forums and listens and maybe even contacts some of us for suggestions and issues as the hardware is very nice (might change saddle for larger, but not an real issue) and definitely feels more robust then the AM5.

I'm waiting for my hyperstar for my C6 because a 300mm F2 scope that I can carry out with tripod as one piece will be awesome and at that point a game changer, the strain waves are mounts of the future of the hobby and only see more coming out.  Imagine a 100lb capacity strain wave that only weighs say 10kg with an encoder, sure it'll be expensive but I feel it can give premium mounts like 10micron a run for its money!

Some observations here:

The NYX-101 supports multiclient ASCOM model from day one.  Also it must be the only mount driver that can transition from USB to WiFi and back without loosing a single packet. You unplug USB cable

and ASCOM driver works flawlessly with Wi-FI. You use Wi-Fi and when you plug USB cable the ASCOM re-routes data to USB.

Unity Platform and ASCOM are very reliable with the mount. To be honest I have spent multiple nights and I never had a single crash. If you encounter a crash and you think it has to do with the ASCOM please

share the ASCOM log or Unity log.

Date and Time is a straight forward thing. It gets time from your PC and pushed the time to the mount. There is no way to have incorrect time stored. If the time was incorrect then your PC had a wrong time or timezone!

The PHD issue you mentioned (About DEC guiding after meridian is something that requires investigation). Usually in every mount I had I was clicking flip data in php2.

Maybe there is something extra but I need to further investigate how PHD2 works with that.

I could have been a bad date on the PC and after connecting to my wifi fixed it self, will never know!  Wasnt to worried about it.

I've ticked the flip guiding after flip and it seems to have solved the issue I just know I had never needed that before, maybe my other mounts set something in ascom?   Just good for others to know to tick that.

The first night 2 crashes but again like I mentioned Nina was due for an update so maybe that's is.   Last night no crash.

I just try to get these things out there as no two setups are the same and who knows what kind of driver conflicts might arise so always good to report.

You are correct the WiFi works great best I think I've seen In a mount but I usually connect USB as my mini pc rides on top.

I love the mount and happy to replace my heavy traditional mount, winter is a had time to mess with something new and there is only so much you can try inside.  I'm pushing the temp to the extreme with -15 to - 20C Temps and it's still guiding well and working as intended minus a few glitches which sometimes as we all know there are just these days all the gremlins appear!

Hi everybody!
I had the some problems getting the firmware update installed on my mount. The mount and the PC are connected to the same wifi network. Mount and PC are connected via USB. The moment I hit the "update" button in unity I get an error message and an browser tab opens telling me to connect mount and PC to the same network... which is already the case.
Can anybody help me or have an idea what I did wrong?

I'm not sure if my experience was the same as yours, but I asked about a similar issue over on the Pegasus forums and got a good suggestion that worked out in the end: https://pegasusastro...topic.php?t=668

Just one more from the second night, mount tracking well!  Second night ran all night unattended, just my home location seemed to get weird but maybe something messed up at some point, in the cold with a tablet makes you fumble around.

I have just been to the European Astro Fest in Kensington, London, which was very interesting for a post COVID newcomer to Astro such as myself.  Lots of equipment to see and all major UK suppliers have booths.

I have had an Nyx 101 on order for quite a while, after considering the ZWO AM5 also.

The AM5 has been out long enough now to have demonstrated a very good track record.  It was a shot in the dark to order the Nyx 101 and today made me very confident in my choice.

I met evansg and the Nyx 101 in person.  Evans took a lot of time to show me many features of the mount and it is beautifully made.  Unity was intriguing and driving the mount from Unity on a PC over USB and simultaneously from a mobile phone over WiFi was very interesting.  The development is continuous.  The standard Pegasus tripod is a bit beefier and much wider stance than the one with the AM5.

My Payload is a 5" Refractor, Flattner, Nikon Z6 ii, Guider, misc. at 10.5 kg.  Definitely no need for counterweights & shaft to prevent tipover.  Very portable.  I do have the pier extension on order.

Back to waiting..................

Indeed I have too, using LX200 Classic with a baud rate of 115200.  Manual slewing it not at full rate and can't seem to turn tracking on though.  This is just inside testing, skies not good today.

It would be nice if the two companies would work together to make a actual real driver to support better function.

Can someone confirm whether the mount will operate in alt/az mode with the scope mounted on the right side also (meaning the scope is facing forward when on the right side of the mount), not just the left side? Also, if possible, confirm whether the mount in alt/az mode can comfortably hold 45lbs with counterweight. I understand the specs say it can but a real world example would be greatly appreciated. A sturdy tripod will probably be needed. Thanks.

I have just been to the European Astro Fest in Kensington, London..................

Just to echo this, I went today and had a good chat w Evans on the NYX-101 and some of their other products (as well as some plans they are cooking).  The NYX looked amazing - so quiet and light.  From what I could see I don't think chord wrap will be an issue in alt-az as the connections are through the non-rotating part of the base.  It's a very compelling mount.

If anyone wanted to see, I just used the EQ6 adapter and the stock tri-pier plate, drilled 3 10mm holed and mounted the two together, works great.

If you are in alt-az mode how do you get to the ports?

There is enough room to get the plugs in and out when it's at 90 degrees.  Has anyone tried AltAz mode on the mount though?

IMG_0904.jpg2.jpg IMG_0899.jpgr.jpg IMG_0903.jpg 3.jpg A set of sensors allows you to orient the mount at the correct altitude and azimuth to have an initial, rough, polar alignment (for lower focal lengths such as camera lenses or visual observations ). Our mobile application guides you through that process.

1.  Level the tripod with as much accuracy as you can. You can consult the electronic leveler (pitch and roll readouts)
from our software or the classic bubble leveler of the mount.

I leveled the mount using the electonic leveler (pitch and roll readouts) accordingly to step 1.  As you can see, it's not level at all, its off quite a bit, and it's not my level or the bubble leveler on the mount that's off, they both check good. You would think there would be a way to calibrate it level to the sensors.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Hurray, my Nyx-101 has arrived.  All went together well. Power on and getting aquainted.

Everything worked with Unity very nicely.

Now I am setting up StellarMate.  smile.gif

I’m having an issue that has popped up suddenly. Unity will only give the flash Unity and then doesn’t load. I’m using a mini PC running windows 10pro. I deleted Unity and loaded the most recent version on Pegasus site, updated ascom, no other software open. I’m at a complete loss why it will not load. Anyone have a similar issue? I’m not using Nina. I use APT for acquisition and it’s not open when I’m attempting to start up unity.
