Hi @ihf, not sure how this can be calculated ?

Starman1 explains it well here. If you have a Pentax XW or Morpheus (except the 17.5mm) then the known eyepiece F=0. Looking at your images in #168 I would guess the Astrowl F is about -10mm. In other words one would have to move the Astrowl about 1cm closer to the telescope to get focus? (But maybe that depends on the adapter used.) In general F=0 is desirable, as it will work in more situations (especially if one wants to keep the diagonal/prism in place and just quickly swap the eyepiece). I was wondering if I could for instance attach the Astrowl to a Pentax spotting scope, but if I am right with my guess I don't think I could. Having F about 0 means having one headache less.

@ihf, ok I see, yes I guess your calculus is correct, to get focus with the Astrowl Box you have to move forward.

Sometimes it is more than 1 cm, depends on the eyepiece you switch with the eyepiece.

Hi guys,

Some of you ask me what are the functionnalities of the Astrowl Box, and I think it was a good idea to make a short and quick summary.

It offers 3 modes: Live (almost video view of the image), Stack (stacking of images) and TimeLapse (to produce video sequences, for example of solar activity).

In Live mode, the user can adjust:
- Gain, Exposure, saturation, stretch, anti-light pollution filter
- Calibrate and activate ST4 guiding
- Colors are automatically adjusted by the box

In Stack mode, you start with the Live setting (Gain, exposure, etc.), and the user can activate the following filters:
- Contrast improvement,
- Deconvolution Richardson Lucy
- Wiener deconvolution
- Wavelet Sharpen
- Threshold for selecting the best frames to stack (for example if you adjust this parameter to 80%, you reject 80% of the worst frames)

Automatically the box:
- aligns the frames,
- stack the frames,
- corrects colors,

In Timelapse mode, the user can create a video from image sequences and can define:
- Number of stacks to build an image that will be added to the video,
- Number of images to create in the video,
- The time interval between each shot,
- Time interval between each image making up the video.

In addition, you can save images whether in Live mode or Stack mode.
You can also view the image displayed on the Astrowl Box screen on your smartphone, computer or tablet to present it or share it with other

HI, a small update with a night cession and the Astrowl Box on Jupiter, mainly to test ST4 autguiding feature of the Astrowl Box. Pictures were done with an apo refractor of 120mm aperture and a Barlow to get a F/D near 12.

120mm aperture is not the best to observe planets.

Below are two pictures to compare same image of Jupiter done without (on the left) and with (on the right) the activation of the 'Details enhance (WI)' filter of the Astrowl Box. It is a bit strong, however for live observing and EEA it is nice to catch details.

Hi, a new release (1.59) of internal software is available for download from https://www.astrowlbox.com/download.

Please carefully choose the correct version for your box version and follow instructions in readme.txt file.

Contact me if you are not sure about your box version.

A new session on Jupiter with the transit of a satellite. This images are taken with the Astrowl box V3 with Sony IMX283 sensor and no other treatment than those available directly on the Astrowl Box.

The image on the left is without any filter activated and on the right with Contrast enhance, Wiener deconvolution and Wavelet sharpen.

I was thinking of trying AstrOwl on a mini pc with 6gb of RAM. Just out of curiosity which base Linux is it based on?

Cheers

Hi WSMIKE, I don't think it is possible to make it run on a mini pc, even under Linux, because the driver for the camera is specific for raspberry and cannot work for other cameras like USB camera. However there is a DIY version of Astrowl Box which is not expensive and really easy to build.

You can find details here : https://www.cloudyni...em-astrowl-box/

This looks neat. How much does the new V3 Astrowlbox weigh?

Thanks. Can I also ask does it have onboard memory to save snapshots to be downloaded later, or do they have to be immediately downloaded to a phone or other device to save snapshots?

Also, can I ask why you chose the 283 chip? It doesn't look like any other astro cameras use that chip. How does it compare to a planetary camera like the 585?

Hi Ihtegla Sar,

Yes it has onboard memory to save snapshots, keep them and/or download them on your smartphone, computer, ...

You will find lots of more details in the user guide from the astrowlbox.com website

Sony IMX283 and IMX183 are exactly the same sensors (think IMX283 is more recent) and you can find several astronomy cameras with the IMX183, like the ZWO ASI 183 or the TOUPTEK  183.

The correct website without the warning is https://www.astrowlbox.com/

@Astrowl the link in your footer details of http://www.astrowlbox.com/ shows warnings from anti-virus or anti-malware programs.

Hmmm… can't reach this page

Yes, I can access astrowlbox.com through my iPhone 13.  But why can't I access it through my desktop computer?   I prefer to work from my desktop computer, and not do everything from my phone.

I'm on my desktop computer now, editing this post.  Not a problem.

@sarkikos, try a different browser & clean your cache on your main browser.

See my posts above.  I have already tried Edge, Chrome and FireFox.  I cannot access the Astrowlbox website with any of them.  I do not have any problem accessing any other website with any of these browers.

I also cleared the cache in Edge and restarted Edge.  I still cannot access the Astrowlbox website.

Works just fine for me on Safari, Chrome and Edge. Doesn't look like its an issue on the www.astrowlbox.com server side.

It's an issue for me!   No Astrobowl for me until I can access their website on my desktop computer.  shrug.gif

Why should I buy a product from a company, when I cannot even access their website?   I have no problem with any of the hundreds of other websites I've visited.  So, the problem is on my side?  Right.

Like I said, I have no problem accessing this website:   https://smarteyepiece.com/   They are located way over in Greece.
