Strange pattern in PI Stanet

Ran starnet plenty of times before with no issue, but this is new and very odd.  Used it with M31 just to see what it would look like, so it's not a huge deal, but I am curious what this is. One is zoomed in. The images are of the Star Mask that is generated.

 

It almost looks like the bayer pattern, but not sure about why the larger patterns of rectangles are showing up like that  either?

You need to use starnet on a stretched image?

Yeah, I actually did an arcsinh - STF stretch and it did the same thing . . . figured I wouldn't post both pix.
