After you replace check your worm gear adjustment, any binding from being too tight can damage the encoder.

Do you know that you actually need a new motor/encoder assembly? From the other thread I'd suggest that it's not a certainty. It's not a terribly idea to just replace it but if you troubleshoot things a bit further you can be a bit more certain (and possibly not waste any money). Still, it's also not a bad thing to have a spare motor/encoder on the shelf.
