While browsing the ads for the (10/11/06) Philadelphia craigslist, I happened to notice a vintage Edmund 'red-tube' 4.25" f/10 Newtonian for sale. The ad number is sale-219194466 (would another member please provide a direct link to the great images of this collectible?). These images are of the very best quality that I have seen of one of those scopes, and would greatly benefit a vintage instrument photo album. The advertisement states:
Edmund 4.25" f/10 red-tube reflector telescope ($175)-$175
"Classic reflector from the late '70s, restored, updated and improved...."
[NOTE: I am not the seller of the telescope. I only noticed the advertisement on craigslist.]
Of especial interest is the image(s) itself. WHAT is the other Edmund 'red-tube' reflector in the background? Is it their 8" f/5 yoke-mounted Newtonian, also from the same time period? How do these 'newer' Edmund reflector telescopes compare optically to the older models in the white metal tubes? Superior or inferior?

Those are my scopes. You're right about the bkg. one as well. There are more images in the classified section here as well as on Astromart.
Had the 4.25" out tonight with my daughter. She's trying to talk me out of selling it.

That was my first Edmund Andy. A $50 steal that's within my budgetary constraints (unlike a Unitron, I'm sure).

Wow - talk about memories. I got on of these - my first "real" telescope - in the late Spring of 1967; the white-tube vesion. Nice little scope for its size, even with such a long focal length. Fast-forward to Christmas of 1980 when I received an Edmund Astroscan as a present. Even with the same size mirror I enjoyed it and its views more than I ever did the F/10 ("Palomar Jr.").
