Cheap inverters are available on Ebay - they don't make sine waves but they work fine with these motors. I would try to find a replacement motor with the opposite handedness (CW or CCW) and preserve the original unchanged.

So yes - the shaft shown here opposite the spur gear for the CD is a time bomb waiting to break the CD bracket. Does the tangent slo-mo worm shown in the upper right have a shaft on the other end? Note that some 6345s don't have the problem we're discussing. Mine is 113 of 400.
