Hello friends,

It is with this post, that I tell you all that I am walking away from the hobby, mostly. I have enjoyed my time learning with you all, and I thank you for the contributions you have made to my understanding, and I am grateful for them.

I am also apologetic for being very hard for some people to deal/coexist with.

My gear will be on Astromart shortly. I will keep my CDK14, 130 GTX, and my Mach 2 and AP1100AE to use. The rest of the loot, will be available soon.

Someone who keeps a CDK14 and a 130 GTX is hardly walking away from the hobby :)

We all have our own vision of what that is.

It's tough to love this hobby when you live in a crappy sky climate.

I've struggled with the same thoughts. Cost per hour does not feel great.

The good news for me is that most of the gear I've invested in holds value. So if I ever pull out i won't lose anything.

Every time I lose interest due to clouds I get a clear night or two and that pulls me back in.

Hope your downsizing goes well.

What is good about this all, are the friends you make. Even sometimes the friends you lose. Either way, I have learned so much. That I am thankful for.

I will not be completely gone, Steve, although I do appreciate the sentiment. I will probably move the big CDK to a dark site and quit fussing around in my backyard.

Such is life, Bill.

Branching roads.

Direction to choose.

Decisions to take.

Choices to make. . . .

@70. Been there, done that . .

Take care and above all, have fun.

The good news: soon there will be a very happy Epsilon160ED with Leo, owner.

Moving to a dark site is a wise decision. Otherwise, those expensive optics do not show how good they are.

Bill, stick your stuff in Chile. You won’t regret it. It’s beyond fantastic.

Also don’t worry about how you come across to others or how they come across to you. Do it for you. For your own enjoyment.

Thanks Paul.

I am not ready for Chile quite yet. Looking at more local options in California and New Mexico

I'm sorry to see you go. You have posted tons of useful info and insights and as an old timer getting back into the hobby, you have been very helpful whether you realize it or not.

However, you have been a bad influence. You are largely responsible for me spending a lot of $ on a Leo and E-160 :)

I am also apologetic for being very hard for some people to deal/coexist with.

Yeah, there's that. Some people tend to take themselves too seriously online and let too much stuff get under their skin. Some have a hard time dealing with reality when it disagrees with them, even more so when they are bluntly reminded of that.

Here's wishing you well wherever life ends up taking you.

I can completely relate to this living is South SF with the constant fog or wind.  It is trying, to say the least.  Clear skies and good imaging to wherever you (your gear) end up.

Open to suggestions for US remote hosting.

You should contact Ed at Deep Space Products, he’s just opened his remote hosting in the last year and has space available.

Bill,

I have not had a lot of interaction with you but have followed along with a lot of your posts and learned much. Thanks for that. Here is hoping this is temporary and we see you again sometime soon in the future. I took a similar path years ago but ended up coming back.

best of luck,

Todd

For New Mexico, the southern half has much better weather than the northern half.

New Mexico Skies https://www.nmskies.com/ has remote hosting between Cloudcroft and Mayhill. That area is Bortle 2 and has exceptional seeing.

Bit late to the (farewell?) party.

Bill, I would say that I wish you would stay full force in the hobby but I prefer to wish you to be happy with your choices in life. I'll miss you man. Give updates as to what's going on as you continue your journey.
