In the 1960s and even earlier, "Tower" was the trade name for many Sears optical, photographic, and electronic products. Tower telescopes turn up here occasionally.
I thought this had to do with the Sears Tower in Chicago, until I learned that it wasn't built until about 1973.
So what tower did they have in mind? Looking at a few pictures, I see that various large Sears buildings did seem to have a tower-like structure at their main entrance. Presumably, the tower is part of their corporate culture and symbolism. Can anyone shed more light on this?
