Instead of two nearly identical photos of the focuser and 4 long shots (that are doubles) the seller should have posted a photo of the box and any contents like eye pieces or accessoris that might come with it. BTW, the finder mounted on it is wrong (from a Towa), and the EP shown is a modern Chinese EP.

Yes, I saw that.  I have asked the seller to send me pictures of the objective and the box with accessories etc and he has yet to do so.  That is why I have reached my bid limit of $60.00.  If I get out bid again, I will let it go.  Thanks for watching out for me.

I just saw that, wow!!!  In the same search, I came across an RAO R61 60/1200 for $3117 + $ $93.00 shipping.  What are these people thinking?

As for the one I am bidding on, I have purchased basket cases in the past and have had good luck getting them up and running.  I may need to put the word out to rebuild the kit if necessary but I am up to the challenge.

Well, I have been out bid again and it's time to let it go.  I don't know what it is up to now but it is now getting out of hand especially with the fact that I can't get any responses from the seller about the questions I have asked.

Would that be an ancestor of Marilyn Manson?

I missed that! That would account for the higher price. I wonder, Marilyn or Charles?

Oh, I know and you be honest with you, I am glad I didn't get it.  There was something about it that just didn't feel right.

So a wonderful member of CN PM'd me yesterday and stated that he has an APL Shrine Manon that he is willing to let me have for shipping and whatever I think it's worth to me.  How cool is that!?  He said it needs some TLC, but I am totally fine with that.  Can't wait to see it and I will keep y'all posted.

So the transaction is moving forward and I should be getting a shipping quote by the end of the week.

So my scope arrived about an hour ago and it is quite nice.  She does need some TLC and I am not sure if I will do a complete restoration or just give her a good cleaning and buffing.  The objective is slightly dusty but it appears that it has never been cleaned.  The wood case is in excellent condition and all the accessories are there.  The guy I got it from did an amazing packing job as well.

BTW, should I decide to paint the tube, what color is it?  Were they originally white and it has yellowed over time or was it some type of off-white or ecru?

If everything goes right I should be starting my restoration on this scope this weekend.  I am having a hard time finding the grey wrinkle paint, but to be honest I haven't looked all that hard.  I did find it on eBay and I may have to go that route.

I just checked the weather and it is supposed to be crazy humid this weekend so the painting may have to wait.  I'm sure I can find other things to do like polishing all the shiny bits etc.

Incidentally I am going to have to use my Scope Stuff 1.25" adapter as the set screw in the original visual back is snapped off.  It is flush on both ends so I can't grab it with pliers and it is tiny.  No biggie though because the larger format should improve the performance of this scope.

That scope will absolutely wake up with modern eyepieces.  It's not subtle.

Yeah I am really looking forward to taking it for a spin. The EP'S I will be using are my Agena StarGuider Dual ED's. I have a couple of decent 1.25" diagonals as well. Should be a winner.

If you have a small drill bit you can try drilling it. Instead of drilling a hole in the set screw it will usually spin the broken piece thru into the inside.
