I have a SV305 connected to a MacBook Air connected to Celestron se8. I'm using AstroDMX. I cannot get it to focus on anything dimmer than the moon. I've tried adjusting the gain and exposure. Does anyone have a similar setup and can help me?

Find the brightest star in your sky and try to focus on that. You may want to try to use something like Firecapture to get focus first and then use another program (eg AstroDMX) for imaging.
What you are going through is pretty normal. Trying to find stars with an F/10 scope and a smaller sensor can be difficult.
