My New Observatory.....I'm Under Construction!
Posted 08 November 2006 - 03:08 PM
My OB delivery is about 2 weeks out yet. I still have to run the data/network conduit under the deck, put the last 2x10 band joist on , I was one short, screw all the deck boards on and seal them before that gets here, then all the inside work needs to be done.........Hope yours is going well.

Funny that the average 5 year old around here knows that mine is an observatory. It's the adults that seem to be confused. The rumor going around our little community is that it is a missle silo. They seem to be ok with that.
I may place a "Got Milk" sign on the side of mine and have the local dairy re-imburse me for advertising.
Ain't that a thing...

What a great idea, I wouldn't of thought of using that.

I was wondering if you would want to get the Pour-Easy tube off your pier, you might try setting your circular saw real shallow and saw it off (much like a doctor cutting off a cast from an arm).
Just a thought.

Thanks for the tip. Or a air powered wizzer wheel, I thinks thats what they are called. I actually called Mayer's today & they said leave it on & dress it up however I might want.
Hmmmmmmm....some more to think about

I think I would try to cut it off at, or below ground level and remove the upper portion. That also allows inspection of the concrete for voids and pockets were cement didn't adequately fill between aggregate.
I remember Starhopper having a huge battle with that... I'll go look for that thread and post a link.

That is a long thread, I think I have carpal tunnel now
Really very interesting. A lot of information to digest for sure. Thanks for finding it...

Send me a PM with your address and I get a postcard off in the mail to you. Just a great read on your postings and from all the others who chimed in.

:rofl2: Is that the new 20" Mixmaster Obsession I have heard about? Looks like a easily moved scope for it's size.
Get some Concrete views with that one. Rock solid mount... Manufactured in Portland!

It also dices ,slices & makes julienne fries.

But today I got all the 2x6 deck boards screwed down, stubbed the electric & telephone conduit up thru the decking, installed the 20 amp GFI breaker in the panel box & got one coat of sealer on the deck boards. I also laid out & drilled all the conduit holes & cut the plywood subfloor that will go inside the OB which I'll put in later. Now I just need that darn OB.

Oh, its not going anywhere. He's just not into astronomy. He's not one of us......I don't think that came out right
Shoulda told him it was a *Potting* shed, or a hobby shop, or well house, or a nuclear reactor, or........
Rob(people who aren't *into* astronomy luv nuclear reactors)
Actually, this might work as Peach Bottom Nuclear Power Plant is not far away
Great lookin project Steve...anxious to see pics of the complete observatory. I'm not familiar with the Bigfoot system...looked like a septic tank at first glance but I understand the physics behind it.

Thanks. I'm sort of at a stand still since I'm still awaiting the OB arrival. I'm trying to decide on a flooring choice. Its going to be laminate with a moisture barrier substrate, or rubber flooring. I'm leaning towards the rubber flooring, although its pricey. I've used the rubber flooring before in the barn.
The BIGFOOT is the best footer system out there I think.
