On Thursday night I was ambitious and tried to shoot a 4-panel mosaic of the Cygnus Loop with my Redcat51. I uploaded the coordinates of each panel from Telescopius and that all went ok. When I come to process, however, it all gets a bit messy. After much experimentation in Pixinsight, this is the best I've managed to come up with.

The best result I got was to carry out background extraction on the individual frames, then merge them. I've managed to make the joins invisible but the gradients won't go. Could this be because I shot during a full Moon? Was I always going to struggle?

Actually, I've used a bit of Photoshop knowledge and selectively adjusted the brighter areas to get this.

There must be a better way though?

I did the same target as a seven panel mosiac and used Astro Pixel Processor.  It worked very well.

You must have the patience of a saint!

Were there strong gradients on each frame for it to deal with? I do think I made it harder than I needed to by choosing full moon to shoot in, but the process of joining the images together worked really well, just not the subtlety of blending the individual images together...as you can see in the first shot!

I did five hours per panel with a L Extreme filter. No moon but different atmosphere for sure. Some nights had more thin high clouds than others. APP and its LNC settings made each panel look the same after they were put together.

Like noted in this thread Astro Pixel Processor is good for mosaics.
ASTAP can do it too (although I haven't tried myself).

Here is my 7 panel version.  Not sure what it will look like with the file size restriction.

Deep Sky Stacker did a good job of stitching all 100 individual frames into one overall image too. It was very easy in that, but not as refined.

App has a good tutorial on their forum on how to do a mosiac from start to finish. You may want to watch it and then try their 1 month free trail. I think it stacks better than DSS also.

I bought APP specifically for mosaics. I stacked the individual panels in SiriL still, which does an amazing job, and the assembled the mosaics in APP. Had to get help with the settings but sorted it out.
