Love the English lessons. Class is!  (ex prof.)

And Cass is for the Cass fan. Then there's the classic Cass.

Was somebody looking for something?

Looking for an old 0.965" eyepiece sun filter.  Yes, I know the risk.  I need it for the finder on my Questar.  Thanks.

I came across one as I pored thru a junk box.  Japanese .965...are the threads common to Unitron?...I have Unitron .965 I'll try it, and if so, it's yours.  Otherwise it will go into the void eventually, sadly.  PM me.

Don - you mean pocketed, as in stole it from you?

Yah that happens...with $500 eyeieces and the dark, some folks prey on stargazers.

I just checked-there are all kinds of teflon/PTFE on Amazon, incuding strips, tape, sheets etc. . . .

I did buy sheets of Tefleon .  How thick do you need the strips? pm me.

you found one...good. I learned that .965 Unitrons do not have threads.  The related sun filters fit over the eye lens in conjunction with a Herschel Wedge, so not #10 density....

Does anyone have spare Astroscan parts hanging around? I'm specifically looking for a tripod bracket or a spare screw that attatches to the base.

Does anyone know what thread the grub screws are that attach a C11 counterweight rod to the brackets on the telescope?

I’m not looking for a replacement. But I need to know what the size is so can construct something for myself that will include a wing nut. This will allow me to attach and remove it without the use of a screwdriver or hex wrench.

Need the purely mechanical base for an ETX90-EC or AT - electronics optional. Actually I just need two parts, can dissect myself. More than willing to donate $$$. Altitude axle must be intact. I have a spare base whose axle repair has failed again. It's dead Jim. I'm a doctor, not a polymer chemist.

What I need is an early (60's?) Cave Astrola 6" mirror and cell.

It is for an otherwise complete Cave scope in Ok/good condition.

A Cave etched mirror would be great if you have one available.

There's got to' be at least one of them out there, somewhere,

that has no immediate future plans, and is just slowly idling

away and passing time...Sorta' like my old (74) butt.

Anyone want to 3D print a 76mm AO "garbage can lid" front cover for these cells? It would need notches for the collimation screw pairs, so it's a challenging project. Would be cool to see "Sears" or "TASCO" or the like on it too smile.gif At the same time, a focuser flange plug would be a good matching item.

EDIT: We have a taker. Simone Biles is going to do it. She can do anything.

Greetings!  I'm restoring an Edmund Scientific, Co. 6" f8 Newt- the "Super Space Conqueror".  I'm in need of the black camera mount that went on the OTA.  I believe it was the same mount on the 4.25" "Palomar Junior" scope as well.  The mount supported an aluminum rod with a solar projection screen as an alternative to a camera.  Thanks!

Steve

Hello, I rescued an ATCO 1253 60mm scope. The previous owner did an OK repair after breaking one of the cradle hold-down brackets, but I'd like to replace it with an original if anyone has one in a parts box somewhere.

The pictures show the good one and one fabricated from copper or brass bar stock and painted white.

Thanks for checking!

Hello. I recently inherited a Celestron 10 Schmidt Telescope. It didn’t come with any documentation and I’m having a hard time finding anything online, it was designed or manufactured in 1969.

I wanted to see if anyone here had any documentation about this particular scope or something similar from the era. I’m not very familiar with how SCTs or motorized mounts work, I think it would be a good starting point. Any other relevant resources would be appreciated. There’s a lot out there, it feels like drinking from a fire hose.

Thanks for looking!

That's a great read! Lots of non-specific information about handling telescopes in general too.

I'm planning on restoring an Edmund Super Space Conqueror 6" reflector telescope from the '60s. Mirror and OTA are in good condition. Equatorial mount is okay, though I need the black tightening knobs for the two axes. If anyone has a couple of spares, I'd appreciate it very much. Thanks!

These knobs? I don't have any extras. I only get what I need like that insurance stuff. This is your saving grace. Those knobs are still in production in a variety of sizes and easy to find. Same design and structure, identical replacements, available 'new old stock'. They never ceased production. These are the most common consistent clamp knobs at Ace Hardware. Check on size availability since they don't keep a lot of these largest size in the cubby drawers.  If you find the big ones, you can probably find smaller ones in the same series if you want to match up other hardware on the scope.

P1010001.JPG

Three different sizes in a variety of shoulders and threads. I just took the old one off one of the scopes, and all the scope knobs are the same. The new one to the left would be a replacement if the threads were cut down, but it might be convenient as is if it clears. They even have the mold casting seam on lower black shank section. They are out there.
