I have a standard flat black aluminum Vixen 36.4 mm threaded to 31.7mm (1.25”) slip-fit/single thumb screw eyepiece holder/visual back, (Vixen part # 3720-03), complete with the standard translucent white eyepiece dust plug with circle V logo. I no longer need it and would like to donate to someone who has a legitimate need in converting a 0.965” format Japanese telescope to 1.25” format. (Recipient to pay postage.)

I also have a similarly constructed flat black aluminum top-hat eyepiece reducer. It’s slip-fit male 2” to slip-fit female 1.25” with one thumb screw. It has no makers marking, no dust plug or cap, and is of unknown origin. For use in converting a 2” focuser to 1.25” format. Again, I am happy to donate it to a worthy project. (Recipient to pay postage.)

If you need either, contact me thru PM, not this thread! One item per requestee. Also note, that avoiding the holiday crazy rush,  I’m not going to the post office until after the first of the year.

YOU will probably know me, the forum will know you, you might have been here, and will be able to get the scope out and SHARED with other eyes with half end frequency.  Local pickup only. I won't push any sales, in fact, no other sales by principle to the receiver. I might offer other free stuff but not obnoxiously.

I have a free 6" ~F8 reflector vintage atm on EQ with alt/az mounted on the EQ part. Ingenious design, numerically correct engineering, crazy nice execution, crazy nice aesthetics, and works like a charm. This is totally cool, good kid funky. It could use a re coat.  I will do a long overdue string on it with pics. I will not be getting to this 'project' in any seeable future.  I obliged myself to get it up and out and shared and that ain't happenin' that I see. Take the karma with it, that's free by nature and grows.

I have the primary out, it gets an RV-6 cell with my custom overbuild included. Glass looks good, way old coating, way old atm, an estate thing. I think the 'sellers' asked for $40 but ended up giving it to me, not sure, something like that.

This is NOT the Edmund SSC going to a Middle School. I recently located the original school for this one, lost to storage for 50 years and going back fixed/restored. The kids took it apart early 70's, original school razed over 15 years ago, and the new school very impressive for Denver Metro.....observatories at BOTH of their outdoors orientation locations in the hills. No worries, it goes back under control of faculty that owns nice personal astro gear and knows kids.

Since I already made THIS statement in the forum, I will include the frac only with the atm or the school scope above. Recipient of the atm should be honest about their ability to get things out and shared. I know the school will. There is a rather small blemish spot in the coating, no biggie, glass is good, nice 90mm frac.

If you can use it great. Consider that the school scope also came with a 60mm Tasco RAO basket case in wood box. That got absorbed into my parts, pieces, and fix ups. So........remember karma.

Free to a good home:

BORG 60ED refractor threaded dew shield + lens cell combo -- no optics -- white exterior in good condition.  Interior of both pieces are nicely blackened. Front of dew shield has female threads (for a dust cap, not included), lens cell does include the threaded lens retainer ring, and the rear of the lens cell has male M57 threads for whatever comes next in the plug-and-play BORG ecosystem.

BORG-60ED_Dew-Shield+Cell_M57-threads.jpg

The lens cell is designed to accommodate a doublet lens having a 62mm O.D. (as the I.D. of the cell where the lens sits is approximately 62.5mm I.D.), and with the retainer ring bottomed out on the cell's female threads, the minimum total edge thickness for the lens itself seems to be approximately 11mm.   Installing a lens with smaller total edge thickness than 11mm would likely require adding a (custom 3D-printed? -Ask in the forums for help with this if needed : - ) cylindrical shim between the front lens element and the threaded retainer. (Note the "60ED / APOCHROMAT" label is printed on the side of the dew shield, not on the exterior of the downstream lens cell itself, which is on the right half of the photo above).

Hopefully someone can find a use for this ... if so, please message me privately ... instead of replying back to this thread ... thanks!

Clear Skies,

        -- Jim

P.S.   The items offered "free to a good home" here in posts #1752 and #1753 are still available, as is one of the two identical items in post #1636 --- anyone ??

The three Vixen AL-series tripod feet --- (A) in post #1753 above --- have been claimed.

Towards the end of next week I'm going to list all my remaining freebies (post #1783 above and the others cited therein) in the CN Classifieds as free to anyone on CN willing to pay the shipping cost.

Therefore the coming week is "Last Call" on these freebies for Classic Telescopes fans here to take first dibs.   Please contact me via CN private message if interested.

Clear Skies,

       -- Jim

P.S.  This Vixen SP mount / AL-series-tripod -style green round storage container with lid:

...that I've had listed in the CN Classifieds has not sold, so here I'm offering this item as "free to a good home" to any Classic Telescope fan who might want it for only the cost of shipping --- also note I'd happily put any of my other freebies inside this container that will fit before shipping it to you  cool.gif .   Next week this too will be offered via the CN Classifieds as free to anyone on CN willing to pay the shipping cost.  Again, please contact me via CN private message if interested.

UPDATE #1:  One of our Classic Telescope fans has offered to take the round Vixen green storage container.   I'll likewise update the CN Classifieds ad from long ago smile.gif

UPDATE #2:  The one remaining Vixen 24.5mm (0.965") nosepiece -to- female 36.4mm thread adapter (post #1636) is taken, as are the two cosmetically-challenged Vixen white MT-1 motor housings (E and F from post #1752).   Still unclaimed at present are items "B" and "C" from post #1753 ... Last Call for this audience will be near the end of next week ... thanks for looking !

Another member requested a PDF manual for the most excellent 60mm LAFAYETTE F-342 tellyscope. I had a folded in half, raggedy, original old manual, but what the heck, it was complete so... I decided to put together a PDF manual for the dink. I'm sure I spent far to much time digitally cleaning up the scans but this PDF looks pretty darn sweet so...if ya' need a copy let me know and I'll email one to ya'.

Coming soon a PDF manual for the Fab' 60mm SPACE SCOPE.

It's no longer available, I grabbed it. For what it's worth the dimensions are 26.3 mm at the eyepiece, 32 mm at the body, and 36 mm at the objective lens. I hope that helps it's a nice scope

Mirrors are Claimed, Thanks.

Free to a Good Home:

TWO, count 'em two, classic Criterion 6" (I believe f/8) mirrors. These were saved from a trip to the landfill during a High School downsizing and 'junk' purge. I will give these to the first person that will take BOTH of the mirrors, not just the better of the two. If you only want the better one, buy the two and sell one.

The mirrors are old and need a good cleaning, or may need recoating. One mirror has a haze that cannot be cleaned. I tried Dawn and distilled water. I tried reagent grade isopropyl alcohol. I tried acetone. I tried an angle grinder. (Just kidding). It looks like something etched the mirror surface, but may still work well.

Blem Mirror_S.jpg

The other is just old. No etching.

Clean Mirror_S.jpg

Both come with original Criterion mirrors cells with all the parts. Both need to be cleaned well (packing fingerprints).

These will both be shipped USPS Priority for $40 total cost.

The person who claims these will have a day (24 hours) to forward the shipping cost...I need these gone, please.

PayPal only for the shipping fee. US only.

Free To A Good Home:

Two filter holder holders for filter drawer. (Yes. These holders HOLD filter holders. smile.png ) I used these to store my seven filters before I switched to a filter wheel. They are 3D printed out of tough material.

These are designed for the GEN 2 (Newest design) ZWO filter drawer holders. Each have magnets to keep the holder in the slot, though the magnets are small and not very strong. I found the addition of a rubber band held all in place well. (The filter holder [black] is only for demonstration. Not for sale here.)

Filter Holder_1_S.jpg

Filter Holder_2_S.jpg

The claimant will have a day (24 hours) to send shipping fee, then the next person is up. Shipping fee by PayPal only. US only.

(The fee should be around $12, depending on the zip code. Give me a code and I'll get the exact shipping cost.)

Hello!

Today was a bit of a disappointment; I had ordered a black C90, pebble finish, Bakelite focus ring, allegedly in excellent condition. Unfortunately it arrived covered in fungus all over, with a rather musty smell to it. A pretty telescope, but it would require *a lot* of TLC to be usable again. The corrector seems etched where the fungus got, and it's also on the main mirror.

I sent pictures to the seller, who refunded me -- I had bought it with a 14-day return policy where I would have only had to cover the cost of shipping.

Instead of taking the scope back, the seller left me the scope to throw away, which feels a shame to do.

Does anyone of you want to attempt a repair? Just send me a PM. You can have it for free of course; I'd give preference to anyone picking it up in western PA (but would consider shipping it, at takers expense, if nobody locally wants it).  My search for a C90 continues..
