Hello!

Today was a bit of a disappointment; I had ordered a black C90, pebble finish, Bakelite focus ring, allegedly in excellent condition. Unfortunately it arrived covered in fungus all over, with a rather musty smell to it. A pretty telescope, but it would require *a lot* of TLC to be usable again. The corrector seems etched where the fungus got, and it's also on the main mirror.

I sent pictures to the seller, who refunded me -- I had bought it with a 14-day return policy where I would have only had to cover the cost of shipping.

Instead of taking the scope back, the seller left me the scope to throw away, which feels a shame to do.

Does anyone of you want to attempt a repair? Just send me a PM. You can have it for free of course; I'd give preference to anyone picking it up in western PA (but would consider shipping it, at takers expense, if nobody locally wants it).  My search for a C90 continues..

Ed Ting did a video about cleaning up a Meade SCT.  The Meade looked as bad as your C90 if not worse. You might look at the video to see if you would attempt to clean the C90. It could end up being a free  C90 for you.

I inherited my Dad's C5+ and it's missing two things. The finder scope and a tripod. Please let me know how much the shipping is and I would love to adopt her.

Hello Friends,

This scope has now been promised to a Cloudy Nights Member.

This is my first attempt at this, so please bear with me.

I have an older Celestron branded 90MM f/11 achromatic refractor that I would like to pay forward.

I painted it ivory. I have removed about three inches from the tube, so it will come to focus with binoviewers without the need for a Barlow, but will still work in mono mode due to the very long draw tube in the focuser. Includes the rings and dovetail bracket. There is an awesome orange T on the due shield…..GO VOLS !

I will send this to whoever wants it in the lower 48 for the cost of shipping.

So I recently traded for a very nice Nippon Kogaku 65mm refractor. Just OTA with eyepieces, diagonal, erecting prism, finder, sun screen. Came in nice box and two other items were present. A wrench to adjust or disassemble the GEM, and three conical shaped metal (brass?) tripod leg tips that are real pointy. Since I don't have mount and I like the scope with rings on mounts I already have I don't need them.

If you have a Nippon Kogaku mount that needs these items or are fashioning a reproduction set of legs you can have them for the mailing cost.

I will be providing a list of all of my free literature sometime in the near future. This will give members a chance to get either single or multiple items for their personal collections. Although tempting, I've decided not to donate everything to a single amateur astronomer but to spread out the literature to multiple enthusiasts. Thanks for your patience.

This is a really nice thread. CN members are the absolute best!

Looking for whatever goes on the bottom of those old classic scope legs. All I have are bare screws.

A brief hunt is turning up a lot more catalogues and other paper literature than I first thought. A few examples are things from such suppliers as Polarex, Unitron, Jason Empire and Nikon. I thought that this foldout from Criterion was especially intriguing (it's not folded out in the images--just the front and backsides are shown in the images). I didn't know that they offered a mirror aluminizing service.

Get 3 rubber flask stoppers of the right size, make a divot for screw head, and presto, done.

The "turret paper" and lens set is all part of the same foldout brochure from Criterion. It dates to sometime in the late 1950s, which makes it about 65 years old. I don't know how many of these are out there, but it must be relatively rare. Will consider it spoken for, but please give me a few weeks to post all of my free items. Packing and shipping may take longer.

Here's what the inside of "the turret paper" brochure looks like. Books, mirror kits, and accessories for a 1950's Criterion owner or telescope builder.

I submitted telescope documents to this Website years ago but can't recall how this was done. Documents are available for all to print.  Perhaps someone here knows how to contact the owners. Would be nice if your documents were added to this archive with access to all.

The collection of free catalogue literature has some easily mailed items, such as this one. It is designed to fit into a simple envelope with one stamp. It is dated January 2006, making it probably the most recent item in the collection. Anyone want this one?
