Hi!
Let me introduce myself, my name is Paul and I come from the French astronomy community!

For several months we have been working on a specialized weather service for astronomers!

And we just launched it: https://www.ouranos-app.com

You can test the service now. Feel free to report ideas, bugs, etc. via the site's contact form.

You can also easily install the app on any phone using the "Add to Home Screen" feature in your mobile browser.

Some brief information: The weather model is the GFS model with a resolution of 0.25°. Maps are updated four times a day (at 7am, 1am, 5am, 1am) and are based on the GFS run (from 12am, 6am, 12pm and 6am respectively). Hourly forecast are in UTC, we are currently working on converting them to local times.

The service will evolve and new features will come!
I am looking forward to your feedback smile.gif .

Paul

Thank you for the link to the new forecast application.

Is the GFS global 1/4 degree model run by Meteofrance,  NOAA or another party?

The transparency calculation includes humidity, temp and ozone and is independent of cloud cover.

I will look forward to trying this application during the week. Today over Maryland USA we have high pressure tonight. Tomorrow night  will be a better test. Some of the local forecasts are calling for clouds tomorrow, but ouranos-app GFS forecast is for clear (hope they are right!).

Ben

Well done! Looks very good. One simple suggestion: change the icons of the cloud cover depending on %. At the moment there’s no difference between 0 and 100%.
Thank you!

Hi Paul,

The seeing seems to be giving me better readings then actually I have, comparing to my “Good to Star Gaze” app, which I have been using over the last year. For example, yours has my sky at 1.0 arcsec when it is much closer to 1.5 arcsec which the GSG app shows. If I thought I had 1.0 arcsec skies I would never sleep!

Also will you be adding by the hr readings as conditions can change a lot during 6hrs readings.

Jon

Nice! Simple, easy to read/understand.

Moonset and moonrise missing?

"La-Costa, CA 9, USA"  What is the 9?

For small one-time fee (~$3) remove ads?

That looks a nice application! I will trying it for a while. Thanks and greetings to Nantes!

A small suggestion if i may. About the days forcast, i would prefer a resume/forecast in a signal color for a day and then when clicking, the day in details...

Normally Moonrise and moonset are displayed blush.gif

For "La-Costa, CA 9, USA" I use a Google database for location, so I don't know why the 9 lol.gif

And for One-time fee remove ads, yes, I'm thinking about it !

Exciting news - Ouranos API is here!

With this API, you can quickly access useful information like seeing, transparency, and the "Predict" function, which tells you the best night for observing with a telescope or observatory.

We're sure this API will improve the efficiency of your astronomical observation operations and maximize your available observation time !

For more information, visit our dedicated webpage: https://www.ouranos-app.com/?page=api

Cheers to clear skies and amazing discoveries! smile.gif

Ouranos is finally available on iOS!

The free version: https://apps.apple.c...my/id6456041564

The Pro version, with all the features: https://apps.apple.c...my/id6453292305

On ISO, it's unfortunately not the same business model (Apple constraints...) It's a €6.99 purchase for life!

enjoy!
