every one enjoys different set ups.. I have a standing desk I work at for 8+ hours...so I'm no stranger to standing and like it much better than sitting.

but at the eyepiece trying to tease out detail for say 30-40 seconds..horrible...specially when not fully upright but slightly leaning over which is most times except for zenith.

but everyone is different.

hitting the Orion nebula... wait for it to get a bit higher like 35+ degrees... it's going to be a treat in the 10" :)

as for pointing...download stellerium or sky safari or just use the Celestron app from your starsense but use the red dot to point your scope at it using a wide field of view ep....once centred play around with different magnifications...

it's a very easy nebula, I can actually see it by eyeball even from my location...

having observed in positions ranging from standing on tiptoe to kneeling and all the weird contortionist poses in between, a chair is invaluable. It prolongs the time you're able to spend at the eyepiece before getting that "ok what's next on the list" itch. I limit my standing/weird positions to hunting and pull the chair once I find what I'm looking for, unless it's a real faint fuzzy then I will sit down and try to find it.

OP, get a chair that is infinitely adjustable all the way to the floor. something like this

a folding camping table/desk is very helpful (the kind that folds in itself like a suitcase with a handle on the side)

You don't need star sense to find stuff, just get a free planetarium app (stellarium, skysafari whatever) and find the bright Messier objects that you can see that night. Hunting and finding objects is a very rewarding experience, everybody should experience it at least a couple times before switching to full goto/pushto.

this scope works great with a regular chair no need for the large, expensive versions.. I use this one because it's cheap, light, small and also adjustable for lower heights and fantastic for traveling

Never seen a stool like that, neat!

You can definitely use whatever works, I still have the office chair I picked from the neighbors' dumpster when they were renovating. It was my observing chair for a few years.

The expensive chairs are definitely more luxurious though wink.gif

I suddenly got the itch to make a do-it-yourself chair from one of the other forums... But 29 bucks on sale... I'm going to spend more than that on just wood.

And worst part is having never tried either way... Not sure if I will like it even after building it

You have to rotate the OTA. There really is no other option. I don't know why ES sells it this way.

Even if you raise it on a table, there will be an intermediate height between standing and sitting where you will have to bend over to try to look in a horizontal focuser.

I just finished rotating mine.  Here is what I did.

1. Remove the 4 screws that secure the OTA tube to the ring with the truss attachment points.

2. Rotate and put it back together without the screws. I did about 35°. Most do 45°.

3. Tape the two together with some blue painters tape around the entire ring and go out and observe. I observe sitting and have an adjustable chair. If you want to observe standing, you can raise it up on some blocks to experiment with height. Then later you can make a small table.. For standing, try rotating 45°. Now if you are looking at something, say 30° above the horizon, you will be looking down at an angle into the focuser, not sitting in a chair or hunched over.

4. Once you are happy with the angle, mark the 4 new hole locations with a sharpie ( before taking off the tape) and then remove the tube and drill 4 new holes with a punch and increasing diameter bits. I clamped a block of wood to hang over a table and put the tube on that so I wasn't drilling with no support.

5. When you put it back together, the original holes will not even be visible. You could restore it to horizontal and the new holes wouldn't be visible. ( but why would you?)

Easy peasy.

No regrets.  it works great for quickly getting the scope in and out of the garage and moving it to a comfortable height for a quick peek.

I picked up an inexpensive Ikea office chair on the street recently. Has the air cylinder adjustment for height. Perfect for sitting and observing with this scope, no table needed. But yes, you have to rotate the focuser, which I did about 35°.

I observed standing briefly when I first started, but your see so much more sitting, that's all I do now.

Me too! I bought a really nice black shroud from Shrouds by Heather, and I have no regrets - but that nebula shroud looks way cool.

I noticed your fancy shroud on your ES 10" hybrid.  What material is it?
