i tired my c8 on the cg4 and it only usable in a pinch to test things out or to compare, not a good use for actually observing, my c5, at102ed and 100mm f10 refractor were all fine on it.  the at102 ed is a good scope, but if was gonna spend $1000 i might go to the 102edl or 115edt, i think the 115v may be usable on the cg4 but have not tried it yet, lots of people use the 115 on m2 mounts ok

Thomas, please let us know what you think about your new refractor, here within your thread, when you're ready, and how it fares on the CG-4.  This is your thread, and not one for the rest of us to ramble on within without your participation, particularly myself.  We'd like to see images of the refractor, along with the ensemble, too.

Will do. I won't be ordering for a couple of weeks yet. Perhaps as a holiday gift for myself?

Thanks all. I decided to take a different route.

About 15 years ago, my daughter and I took part in Dick Parker's mirror workshop. We made an 8" f/6.8 mirror which I installed in a dobsonian that I built poorly.  It has been sitting around unused for at least the last decade.

I have decided to have DobStuff create a new scope for me from my optics.

Clear Skies!

A C6 (with reducer), or ST120.

Here’s my CG-4 with my SW 120 ED Pro mounted.  Does a pretty good job of supporting it for visual use.  I also use VSP’s under the legs and that helps with focusing vibrations.

I'm glad to see Dennis is only partly retired.  Please let us all know how your new DobStuff is working out...

My SV80A (80mm f/7 doublet) works great on a CG4.  It will also carry my C6 OTA without grief.

My 2 most favorite small mount scopes were a C6 and a wide field 80 ED refractor. I would have to say that the refactor was best for scanning the skies for different DSO targets.
