Small binoculars, 7x35 or similar. Great for the moon, star fields, birds, squirrels, airplanes, etc.

Already has a telescope. However, may still be a good idea, as the telescope takes a bit of setup.

Have you checked your local library for books on the Moon and Mars? My local library has quite a few books on the moon.....
