Has anyone else had problems using their 70D with and AISAIR Plus (or other AISAIRs?) I have mine connected with a USB cable, and the DSLR in bulb mode, and while it all basically works, this combination has some bizarre behaviors. In preview, if I select a 1 second exposure, the mirror will flip up for about 15 seconds. In that time the one second exposure is taken but seemingly nothing else happens. In Autorun, a three minute exposure takes nearly 7 minutes. That made me wonder about Long Exposure Noise Reduction, but I checked the 70D's menu and that's off. All these behaviors happen all the time. I've tried swapping out the 70D-AISAIR USB cable with no change. I also tried swapping in my Canon EOS R6 (which uses a different USB cable) and then everything worked as it should. Is my experience typical for this combination?

Here's my setup:

AISAIR Plus

Redcat 51

ZWO AM5 mount

ZWO Mini 30F4 Miniscope and ASI120MM Mini

Canon EOS 70D (Astro modified)

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I too use a 70D with a Redcat 51 and an ASIair Plus. I always have it in Bulb mode (if only to get around the 30 sec restriction in M mode).
Camera settings are
Raw (only) and WiFi and bracketing are OFF. If you unplug and then replug the camera while the ASIair is on, when you select the 70D on the drop-down, it shows you the camera picture settings. It also gives the warning about WiFi and bracketing settings.
On the ASIair, the setting for the shutter cable is off (not needed on this camera). The setting to save to the camera is on (I'm over cautious!) And in the additional settings, the white balance is on (I don't recall setting this, but if it ain't broke...). The other 2 settings are off.
I also use a third party usb cable (the canon original was way too long for my needs) and it all works perfectly.
Btw, have you tried connecting your camera into a PC and seeing if the Canon software operates the camera correctly? This may show if there is an issue with the usb port on the camera and/or the cable.

Clear skies.

Thanks jd999uk! It was so helpful to know that your setup is working and there isn't anything innately faulty with the EOS 70D - AISAIR combinations. I was aware of all those settings and had checked them repeatedly. Your post, however, motivated me to try the "Clear all camera settings" item in the Canon menus. I had hesitated because I remembered there was one setting in particular that had to be altered because the camera was astro-modified, but couldn't recall which one (turns out it was disabling "Sensor cleaning".) I went through and made the other menu changes too. Anyway, it did the trick and the 70D is now behaving itself.

Hi gents, i’m looking into buying an ASIAIR Plus this week but wouljd like to be able to use my dummy battery with my canon 70d, directly from the asiair instead of having to put another cable from my power station. How did you guys do this? Thanks!

You'll probably want to start a new thread, but what you want to do is possible, but you'll need to put something between the camera and the ASIAIR's DC 12v out that brings that 12v down to what the camera needs. There are buck converters easily and cheaply available on Amazon that can do this.

This is how I power my camera, but I definitely recommend that you break out your multimeter and check voltages yourself as I don't want to responsible to frying any of your equipment by providing specific values.
