Had a discussion with moderation over at EAA on best place to generally discuss the scope hitting the market next month, lots of topics related to this because it was developed as a jack of all trades, so use this forum/topic to discuss all aspects of the scope.also post links to video reviews as you see them, quite a few have gotten early shipments

Herd from Jimmy this morning, he stated it is definitely on there road map to develop a stacking algorithm for sun, moon and planets and so they are looking at more options for video output to accommodate post processing…. Ie ,ser or .avi

Mine may arrive in a couple/ few days. I’m not sure if my first image will be terrestrial or celestial. I may run out and get a bird-feeder to attract birds and position mine outside near that and operate it from in the house to get some bird images. I’ll see what it can with DSOs as well.

Here is a 10 sec video short showing a zoom in on the moon… I believe this is a digital zoom, however I thought it was pretty good , stayed pretty sharp, this may be cool to mirror to a big screen https://youtube.com/...M?feature=share

Just keep track of the latest news about avian influenza outbreak and bird feeders. I'm assuming you don't want to harm birds for the sake of getting some photos.

I have seen the video, although I do not believe Dawrf II aims to Lunar or planetary, for general photos of them, it may have some use.

The thing is that, from what I have been seen in the Facebook group for Dwarf II, photos taken by users differ significantly from photos from YouTubers.

This may mean that the learning curve will not something behind than just unpack and shoot. My opinion is that they still have a long way until they polish the software.

Experts say bird feeders are fine, feed those birdies :)

Galaxy Art Media posted a video today about DSO imaging with the Dwarf II. He shows images that are  live stacked, post processed, 6 sec subs, 15 sec subs with polar alignment.  https://www.youtube....h?v=JpW3tNIpZVI

Dwarf Labs also posted an updated with new info about production delays and a webpage to track your order. https://www.indiegog...432#/updates/24

The update has a video of auto focus and auto tracking a plane at night. I hope someone will try auto tracking  with satellites and comets to see whether or not those object are too small for the Dwarf II.

I’m still very interested in how dwarf tracks…. Occurred to me that I could be off on a live pkatesolving…. Instead perhaps it’s a variation of the motion tracking they use for objects, planes, birds etc, so if it’s locked on to a star it’s a form of guiding…. Would be nice to know…. Only thing obvious is it’s not simply tuning the motors at a preconceived rate like we are use to

General question, do you think it’s safe to stack the solar filter behind a teleconverter …. Assuming it’s double threaded, 50/50 chance but seems like most 1.25 filters are…. In the old days before people had sense dept store refractors had solar filters you screwed in to the eyepiece…. I know that’s not safe but I don’t think the focal point of a teleconverter is at the thread

So I set aside some time today to think about the teleconverter on the dwarf and figure out an elegant counter weight solution…. The great part is I discovered I already had it, so the idea was to find a clamp that would fit over the lense housing with a 1/4 screw in on back side to install counterweights , this is dual purpose because it also will be mounted right between the two cameras and act as a way to ensure the filter adapter is secure withe the weight of the teleconverter or wide angle attached. I did find one set of counterweights that should be pretty close to equalizing the lens so there will be no strain on the alt motor should I be off from perfect polar alignment or possible could make it operate normall an alt/az mode.

so the device is actually a phone clamp, this one is light weight abs and pretty nice, the counterweights are in the link below that

I got the email that my Dwarf2 has been turned over to the shipping provider and I got a tracking number.   When checking status, it shows "Shipment information received, HONG KONG - HONG KONG SAR, CHINA".   so I guess it is still undergoing processing in China before it leaves the country.  I'm thinking mine might still be a week or two away.

I went on and got a bird feeder in anticipation of getting the Dwarf2.  While I'm waiting, I tried setting up my Nikon zfc mirrorless camera with 50-250mm zoom lens set at 250mm and aimed it at the bird-feeder and triggered the pictures from a location hidden from the birds with a wireless remote-control and got the pictures shown in the following video.  This is one of the things I hope to do with the Dwarf2.  Of course the Dwarf2 will also let me remotely aim the scope to give me options other than just a single reliable target.  With my current set-up I have to go outside and manually aim it which scares away the birds for a while.  We have some owls that frequently visit our back-yard but not always at the same place.  With the Dwarf2, I could remotely aim it to where the owls were hopefully without scaring them.

Also shown in the video are a couple astro-images.

If anyone has a Facebook account, you might consider joining the "DWARF II Smart Telescope User Community

Yeah that’s too bad… I banned all of meta sites 2 years ago, I missed out on a lot of vespera discussions too…. Guess I’ll just count on you guys to port anything worthy over here or on Twitter

Just a little more planetary capability such as a Barlow and this would be a no brainer for me.

I have high hopes my teleconverter will work…. However I do think people should give up any hope of doing planetary in any satisfying way…. I mean even if I get my teleconverter to work that’s still only going to give me the fov of my vespera…. Which is woefully inadequate for planets…. The advantage will be much more evident on smaller Dso that is too tiny for dwarfs monstrous fov. I know that’s disappointing but it is the reality of the situation, it’s just physics
