Maybe it will come back in stock, I think there are similar units if not….. but it is premature, I won’t know how well this works until my dwarf arrives…. But it seems like it should work given the dimensions on the dwarf lab website.,

Showing as unavailable in the US for me.

I saw some portal showing the various links and video…. Pretty sure it had a discord button but can’t say whether or not it’s active, but this is a good place to discuss and twitters photos seems worthy to link and share…. Example https://twitter.com/...Hs5LbLubJvzWSQg when you go click on the photo, it enlarges and you can zoom in and look around…. Probably my favorite way to share my Astrophotos right now

I don't Facebook.  Any chance of getting a Discord Channel?

No status movement for my Dwarf2. Even though I got an email that it is "on its way", the tracking link still has not updated since saying "information received" back on Jan 12th.

One tracking link I followed even said the estimated delivery was in April.  Not holding my breath for an imminent delivery.

It might not update til it hits the states, last thing I got worked that way, the original tracking number expired as soon as it landed and a new one was issued, the original started with 4px , had to enter that on a different tracking page and that’s where it showed the u.s. number which happened to be usps

I have high hopes my teleconverter will work…. However I do think people should give up any hope of doing planetary in any satisfying way…. I mean even if I get my teleconverter to work that’s still only going to give me the fov of my vespera…. Which is woefully inadequate for planets…. The advantage will be much more evident on smaller Dso that is too tiny for dwarfs monstrous fov. I know that’s disappointing but it is the reality of the situation, it’s just physics

Based on your estimate of the 2x making Dwarf II equal in FOV to Vespera, how will this work for lunar imaging?  I have no experience with Vespera (or any of the other robotic telescopes), so I have no relative sense of what they can do.

The fov for vespera on moon is a fairly large disc, it all fits in, but if dwarf does have digital zoom capability ,maybe possible to explore better if the teleconverter works well….in other words, view this video of dwarf zooming in, and then imagine you are 2x closer at the beginning of the zoom…. Seems promising… but just depends on how sharp things are when the lense is attached https://youtube.com/...M?feature=share

p.s.  I can’t be positive about the digital zoom….. it’s possible the reviewer did this in post, I’m trying to look, if anyone knows then chime in…

——-

I commented on video asking for explanation…I am not seeing any reference to digital zoom….so suspect the only option is the pinch zoom on your phone or camera…. But anyway, the same applies I guess, the teleconverter should allow you to get 2x closer than without

Dwarf should be 2x smaller than this , thinking lots of pictures we have been seeing were cropped, however the images still look sharp cropped

Just to confuse you a little more…. Watch this video, take special note on how big the moon is right before he pinches and focuses, that’s the field of view in my opinion…. At the very end they show a photo that is said to be from sd card….that looks to be a cropped photo …clear as dirt but pretty sure unless the cam saves the photo at the amount you have it pinched then that last shot was not the one saved. https://youtu.be/OkCWLilp5lA

——

in a nut shell the fov is humongous… I would bet people are going to be cropping lots of black space out of most of their shots, exceptions being andromeda, Rosetta and a couple of other really big targets….. this is why I am hoping the teleconverter works but Cuiv is already warning me the tracking may not be good enough, we will see

Although this is a prototype, if your curious how the filter attachment is held, appears to be 8 tiny magnets instead of bigger ones, was told it held well but I think anyone adding attachments other than to standard 1.25 filters should have a clamp in their arsenal just to be safe

Galaxy Arts Media posted video about the improved tracking. DWARF II can now handle 15 sec subs without polar alignment. In his previous video, he could only get 6 sec subs.

https://www.youtube....h?v=MLzNcZQlDAU

I wonder what kinda of tracking algorithm DWARF II is using. 15 seconds pretty good for an alt az mount.  Plus, people don't need to level the  Dwarf II.

I just got a text from DHL that a package from Hong Kong is headed my way and going to be delivered by the end of Jan 23rd.  Hmmm...  I wonder what that could be?

If it is what I think it is, I'll be posting another MSG here!

Wow that’s a pretty major update…. It’s amazing how fast they are pushing these out…. I asked him about tracking on his video… hopefully he will have further insight

So… interesting, he said he would ask Dwarf, but what he thinks is, for 15 or 20 sec after arriving on target, it is actually analyzing the motion of the stars and setting the tracking motor speed accordingly on both axis….. this explains why it was working in EQ without entering a special mode….. pretty slick if that’s how it’s working…. He mentioned that at one point in his test it was very cloudy but could barely see the stars on the live view and it did not track as well…… could mean it’s continuously doing motion detection or it simply could not have enough photons to establish a good track at the beginning. Fun

I'm very curious to understand what polar alignment and field rotation correction mean with this mount/device. It will really help me with my purchase decision.

I'm not sure I would want to trust that for solar viewing...

They say it’s pretty secure, 2 1.25” solar filters don’t weigh much

I'm not sure I would want to trust that for solar viewing...

Polar alignment is just an option, it only means that the scope is going to rotate on 1 axis instead of two and the fov should remain unchanged, With it in alt/az mode it just means the fov will decrease over time…. Think of it as slowly zooming in on the target…. But with such a wide fov this will seem insignificant

I'm very curious to understand what polar alignment and field rotation correction mean with this mount/device. It will really help me with my purchase decision.

Still buying various step rings so that I have them on hand to use with dwarf, the latest is a 49-58 so that I can use my b&w 093 ir filter, only thing is the usefulness of shooting terrestrial with the zoom lense may be limited….. pretty sure the ir cut filter can’t be removed from the path of the wide angle lense.

but anyway… if your considering doing any experimentation at all, I do recommend you go ahead and pick up the 1.25” to 49mm step up ring just so you have it, that seems to be only one of its type and there are only 13 left on Amazon …. Once you have that, there are step up, step down rings for just about anything from 49mm and they are all approx 6 bucks so not big money.

I MIGHT be getting my Dwarf2 today.  I got a text that it might come today before the end-of-the day.  The timing would be good since I have a public outreach event to help run tomorrow evening and I'm sure people would be interested in a device that only cost in the range of $400 to $500.

I hope it is easy to use because I won't have a lot of time to play around with it before the public outreach.  If I can't figure it out quick, I'll just put it back in the car and demo it for the next one.

Good for you and good luck!  I ordered one a few days ago and haven't yet heard anything.  I use OS devices and it looks like the IOS specific apps will be out soon....

I'm trying to locate the Dwarf II DSO library, does anyone have any info?

Also how would this device work for taking Milky Way photos??

Thanks

According to Dwarf Labs, trying to add tracking and imaging with wide angle lens is on their todo list.  People will need to wait and see if Dwarf Labs can make it work.

In addition to the Nikon telephoto I bought to test, I also picked up the .63 wide angle…. So we will see, although I may have too much light pollution for Milky Way shots….but should at least be able to tell if it would work…. Guess around 6 degree coverage with wide angle so might still be to narrow fov?

My Dwarf2 came today!

I haven’t had time to do anything but take it out of the box and start charging it up.

I made one quick attempt to connect my android app to it but the first attempt failed which could be due to all sorts of things including permissions, low battery, or too-old firmware.  I’ll try to sort that out tomorrow.  I have some other commitments tonight.  I think the IOS app will be available by the end of January.

Anyway, here is the Dwarf2 next to my Vespera and my old 20” DOB in the background.

The Dwarf2 accessories are also shown in the picture.  You charge it with a USB-C that you must provide.

6CB5CFB1-86D5-48D8-9616-530CAEE70DC4.jpeg

It also comes with a fairly nice carrying bag.  very similar to what I use for my mirrorless camera.

I got the "delux" version with a couple extra accessories.  I don't remember what the base version comes with.
