Hi folks,

I'm getting semi-excited to find the new iOptron HAE29 that is just barely within my price, but then having to fork out additional $320 for a fancy tripod and $120 for a pier riser breaks the budget especially when I have a nice CEM25p and two piers for it plus a couple of other heavy-duty CG5-type tripods that would work too.

Is there an adapter yet for the "new" range of mount heads to adapt to the "old" style mounting?

Thanks,

Paul

If you have or can score the old style (ZEQ25/CEM25) minipier, you can take the bottom of that minipier and attach it to the top of the "new" (CEM26/GEM28/HEM27) minipier.  I did this for my CEM26 (having the old ZEQ25 minipier) so that I could attach it to my Berlebach tripod which I had previously bought the ZEQ25 adapter for.

It’s the same story with the AM5.

The tripod is very light but not quite sturdy as a standard tripod for bigger mounts.

The pier or minipier is highly recommended.

I have an GEM28 with a minipier 5.5”   I was able to adjust it to the AM5 head.  Please See the “AM5  for different Tripod”   , or similar,  topic on the Equipment/Mount forum.

I’m sure that you will find ideas on how it should fit the iOptron HEM much easier.

It’s doable.

For convenience , I kept the AM5 CF tripod and pier.  But it’s not really a necessity.

Holy moly - yes!!! Thank you! My mini-pier sits unused presently as I am using a longer pier so very good news!

I made an adapter between my GEM45 and my Meade tripod - completely different fittings. I made it from two bits of 10mm aluminium plate. The plates bolt together and each one is designed to fit the part next to it. It cost about £60 for the aluminium - far cheaper than a new tripod. It did need a bit of time to design and make though.
