So my cpc8 is packed away right now. I have my Celestron C90 mounted on a Skywatcher az-gte mount that I'm playing with right now. I was thinking of downloading Skysafari 7, but for $30 was wondering if it will work with my setup. Also curious as if I would have to use 2 devices, one for skyscan app and one for safari app? Thanks for any helpful info.

Welcome

Sky-Portal is scaled down version of Sky-Safari and its totally free and easy to use.

If you can use Sky-Portal then try it first and If you like it then later you can move on to Sky Safari.

Sky Portal has more then 200 DSOs and entire Messier catalogue.

In my opinion, you can use both apps(Skyscan and Sky Safari) in a single device as both apps are different.

Good Luck.

So I have skyportal on my phone also. So, I guess I would still connect my phone to skyscan, and then connect skyportal to skyscan wifi also? It's going to be raining here the next few days so I'm just gonna play with it best I can in my garage. Thanks for the response.

I would not know about skyScan. I connect Sky-Portal to my house wifi.

In sky-Portal, DSO become visible only after the scope is connected.

You can also download Sky-Safari as well. Sky-Safari provides the free version also. It is exact copy of Sky-Portal.

The benefit of Sky-Safari is that it shows the DSOs without connecting the scope.

Ya, I have the free version of skysafari. I was just exploring maybe an easier way to align and goto options for my mount. From what I understand, if my telescope is connected to skysafari 7 version, it's basically point and shoot. I'll play around with skyportal first this weekend. Thanks!

So the only free safari app is the astronomy app, which I already have and there is no telescope setup in it. So it looks like any of the telescope connection apps have to be paid for. And I guess I have to have a wifi module? I don’t have home wifi. I was hoping it would work with my skywatcher wifi. Will safari or skyportal be able to connect to my mount if I have a wifi module?

You will need a wifi module for connecting a app with the scope. However-

If by SkyWatcher Wifi you mean SynScan wifi module then it appears
that SynScan will work with SkySafari Plus/Pro.

Ya, so my skywatcher az-gte mount has the skyscan wifi module inside. I turn on wifi on my phone and connect directly to the skyscan network. On your attachment, it says still requires 2 devices. Guess that means that a wifi module is needed besides my phone connection? I may have to splurge and pay the $15 for safari plus to see how it works. Lol

Thank you again. I'll just need to buy the safari plus app for sure and then go from there.
