I recently imaged the Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF. I collected 78x1 minute (60s) images with a Canon 60D DSLR. What I'd like to do is process these into a single stacked image.

So while it's relatively straightforward to make a video out of these images - showing the comet moving against a fixed star background, I'm finding it difficult to stack these 78 .cr2 files into a single image - i.e. stacking just the comet, not the stars.

I've tried Deep Sky Stacker, which stacks the stars and smears the comet - Comet mode does NOT produce good results

I've tried Autostakkert on the video, which also fails

I've tried Registax on the video and static subs - which also fails

So, has anybody any tips on software that will stack the comet please ?

TIA

Martin

Pixinsight easily handles it.  I am sure there are other packages that also do that.  Search YouTube for "Comet Processing" and you'll likely find a few options.

Good luck,
