Quick question, i found an orion skyview 6 deluxe eq for 100$, tried looking it up but found little to no information on it so i have absolutely no idea if its a decent scope or not. anyone know if its any good or worth it for that price? thanks.

Seems like it's a bit of an older model - 20+ years.

If in good condition, maybe offer like $50 for it? That is what my cheap self would do if I wanted that scope. The EQ mount may take some getting used to, and not sure if the mirror is center marked (not hard to do, but be aware you may need to do it).

And it's also going to be a bit hefty. My personal preference would be

for a dob mount w/ a 6" reflector. But then again, finding a 6" dob super cheap isn't always easy.

I'd just pull the trigger and buy it.  Never used it but should be a decent entry level scope with enough apperature to be useful.  And if you don't like it you could easily flip it on FB marketplace for the same price.

I don't know the scope.  However I have a tendency to guide newbies away from equatorial mounts, especially lower end mounts.   There is a learning curve to learning to use an EQ mount that you don't have with an AltAz mount.

Just a consideration.

If the mirrors are in good shape this is a great price, and this is a work horse type scope.

It is 6 inch f/5 newt on a gem (german equitorial mount)  Make sure you are comfortable with operating a gem.

Similar to the dob, make sure all the mechanical components are operating, focuser, and test both mount axis for smooth movements, and they lock down properly when the clutches are tighened.  Check the collimation screws to make sure they are not rusted, or bent etc.

Make sure all the parts are there, counter weights, cw bar, eyepieces, finder,

slow motion controls.    If some parts are missing they can be replaced,

just know what you are getting into.

Agreed, but in this case the mount looks substantially better than your typical department store grade mount.  The learning curve is minor and there is a real  advantage of tracking and reacquiring a target with just one axis for a beginner.  And you can't beat the price.

You may be able to point the polar axis straight up to put it in Alt-Az mode.  Can't do the reverse easily with an Alt-Az mount.

hey everyone!, I've taken everything u guys have said into consideration these past few weeks, i was still kind of hesitant about ordering a telescope as i still wasn't 100% sure if this hobby was right for me, but one night i decided to go outside with some binoculars like some of you suggested and it was awesome!, the first thing i saw was the Pleiades, which looked amazing btw!, and then i decided to take a look at the moon, i really wasn't expecting much since it was just a pair of binoculars, but it was absolutely stunning!. after that night i knew it was for me. now everytime i get a chance i run outside and look at the moon lol.gif.

anyways, what I'm trying to say is thank you!, i recently ordered my telescope and it should be here in 3 days from now. it might have been a "little" over the budget, but that budget i set was only because i wasn't sure if i would even like the hobby yet, i was able to go quite a bit higher than 300, a more realistic budget for me was about 700. so after careful consideration, i ordered an Apertura AD8. i wasn't too concerned about Portability and i really didn't want anything that was automatic as i found that finding stuff on my own was way more rewarding and just fun in general, so for me i think the AD8 was the best fit.

anyways i feel like I'm talking too much so i think ill end it here lol.gif. once again thank u all for you're help!, cant wait to take my first look through my telescope!.

Good choice!!!  That might be your forever telescope.  I too prefer to find stuff myself.  The electronics in my 33 year old scope work perfectly, because there is none.  My current mounts are also manual.  All, including my first one, will out last me.
