I have a fairly old Celestron CGEM mount that has been a workhorse for years.  Just now, though, it has a problem.  When powered, the power light illuminates only dimly, and the hand controller does not light up at all.  Some sort of power problem.  I am willing to potentially try a little repair if I had good suggestions.

But perhaps better:

Does anyone know a repair facility for a Celestron CGEM in southern California (I live in San Diego but the LA-area would be worth the trip for it).

Thanx in advance for any comments..

Hi

Wouldnt Celestron be the best folks to send it to, or to ask your question to?

The power connector on the CGEM is not the most solid.  I had to open up the panel and re-solder the power side connections on the internal side of the connector.  There are bent pins that hold the assembly together (and maybe some solder) that can easily, over time, loosen up and you have a flaky connections on the + side.  It is definitely worth taking out the 4 screws that hold the cover plate in place and taking a look at what is going on at the inside of that connector.
