Haven't seen anyone else talking about halos from the new Askar colormagic D1 and D2 filters, so I figured I'd start a topic about it. I know Oiii is notorious for having halos on many popular brand filters, but Askar does market these as not having halo issues. These aren't quite as bad as my first l-extreme filter, but they are definitely there. I've used the IDAS NBZ (after the l-extreme halos) for almost two years and never once saw a halo. I reached out to Sharpstar to see if they have had any other people showing issues.

I used two different scopes to try and rule out internal reflections or other issues, my Askar 65phq and my MN190. The California Nebula was with the 65phq, and the Christmas Tree Cluster with the MN190.

That's too bad.  I bought this set a couple of months ago, but haven't had a chance to try them out.   I was going to be okay if they showed such halos on mag 2.5 or brighter stars, but those are about mag 4 stars in your examples.

Edit:

Let us know what they say please.  I've been burned once before by Askar with the product that didn't live up to their marketing claim.

Will do, I've reached out to Agenaastro as well since they are one of their major US distributors. I'm not very happy, especially since the halos are showing in the Ha/Oiii filter, which is going to get the most use of the two.

Sharpstar is going to send me replacement filters in the next week or so. Yes, both filters show large halos around Alnitak, tested with 3 different scopes. Alnitak is a very notorious star for halos though, much brighter than most stars around typical targets, and most filters will show similar halos. Antila even includes a warning in their descriptions that they will probably have halos around very bright stars. I have only had issues with large halos on the brighter stars, no issues on others, and the halos can be dealt with easily when processing, people have been doing it for years with the l-extreme.
