Hello,

I finally got a chance to look at this comet. This is a 27 minute live stack with SharpCap using the following gear:

AT60ED + 0.8 FR + 294MC Pro with an IDAS LPS P2 filter.

I think I can sort of see the wide dust tail pointed up but what is the V-shaped thing in the coma? Has anybody imaged this recently for a comparison?

Thanks in advance. Cheers

Your problem is just that comet moves so fast when we are so used to stationery deep sky objects :)

Jokin aside, you need to align using the comet as align point (giving also trailed stars).

This is what happens when you stack the stars but the comet is moving through the stack. This image can be used for the stars if you have a star remover that can save the stars and discard the comet.

Secondly, register the subs, remove the stars and stack the comet. Then combine the comet with the stars previously saved.

Did you save your raw images? If you did you could get the beta version Sharpcap 4.1. They added a comet alignment feature. You may be able to turn that on and restack using the folder monitor. Been wanting to try that but the weather has other ideas.

27 min is more than long enough to cause that.

Well no luck with the 4.1 beta. It doesn't seem to know where the comet is and is trailing it like the other stars. There is a reddish star very close that is actually brighter than the comet so I think things may be getting confused.

There don't seem to be any settings to muck about with other than the "Align on a Comet" checkbox. Or am I missing something? The SharpCap forum doesn't have much on this feature yet since it is so new.

Finally got a chance to try out the comet tracking in SharpCap. I think it worked ok. Not an AP guy, do EAA mostly.

Celestron 8 inch SCT, 6.3 reducer, ASI294MC Pro.

120 X 16 sec

Might be able to squeeze a ion trail with a flat but I was having enough issues last evening.

Can you share some files so I could take a look ?

Just one or two in the beginning, some in the end and some in the middle.
