Dear observers, this evening C/2022E3 and C/2022U2 are very close. But the nearly full moon is in the sky. Nevertheless, I tried looking at both with my 12-inch reflector. After some effort I was successful. At 144x, I had to move the FOV slightly before ZTF came into view. So it was not really at a glance.

Uwe,

thanks for this post.  I got enthused about trying to see both comets with my students tomorrow night until I saw that U2 had a magnitude of ~16 !  I've no chance of seeing that in my location frown.gif (Bortle 2.5-3)

Even in a dark location you did very well seeing it in a 12" scope - Good work ! (did you use your NVD??)

Uwe,

That is pretty good capturing two comets in the same field.

Impressive.

Frank :)

That is not true. Data give around 12 mag, I measured 13,3 mag yesterday. Way too dim because of the moon.

You should not look at the data in sky maps regarding comets, but real observations. You may use the page of our German comet section (I linked the English version) or use the COBS analysis.

Great catch waytogo.gif

I tried with a 12" newton too, but failed to see U2 (and the tail of E3) frown.gif
