SS5 Pro has always connected to both scopes I own with two NEXUS DSC units. I used an iPad Air2 and currently iPad Air4.
In the past I clicked on the show Comets, likely for Neowise and a few comets appeared and I turned it off. In looking for the Green Comet back in late December, I turned comets on and it looked like a million names popped up in green and no matter what, I couldn’t turn them off. It was so distracting SkySafari was not useful.

So, I removed SS5 Pro from iPad, and then downloaded it from the Cloud… I copied settings, etc and as far as I can tell, all settings are as they were yet SS5 Pro will not connect to iPad. I get the cannot connect check WiFi network, etc.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions…
== Thanks == Mark

Note: Main Settings: LX - 200 Classic, Alt-Az Push To, IP 10.0.0.1, Port 4060, Readout 10/ sec

Probably the wrong forum for this question.  However make sure you have the correct settings for the IP address and port number that SS pro needs to talk to set in the telescope config of SS.  I bet the default settings are not correct.  In addition remember that your SS machine needs to have an IP address of that same network.

There are two versions of the error message, one says cannot connect via wifi, the other says the scope is not responding. So you may have a basic iPad wifi connection issue, not so much a SS5.

Your settings look good for a Nexus DSC.

Hey Mark, maybe try replacing “alt-az push to” with “alt-az go to”? Other than that your settings are exactly like mine and mine seems to connect most times. I don’t have go-to but for some reason that’s the setting that works for me. It’s worth a shot trying that setting

Ok, thanks… I posted here in NV after posting under Equipment (with no replies)…

So the difference I see is in Nexus the IP Address is 10.0.0.2. I have an iPhone 7 that I don’t use with scope but tried to connect to SS5 and it does. The phone also has Verizon cellular. I did change the IP to 10.0.0.2 in iPhone.

The iPad uses ATT cellular and it’s a 4G iPad and ATT sent me a 5G SIM card as they are shutting off all the old technology. The new SIM card is not installed yet and there is No Service with cellular ATT. Other than this, the iPhone, iPad and Nexus DSC all show the same settings.

The message that appears on iPad screen is:

Connection Failure - SS5 Pro can’t make a wireless network connection to the scope. Make sure you’ve joined it’s WiFi network and entered its IP Address correctly.

Note: that I can tell, deleting / removing app off iPad did not remove it from phone… something has changed I just can’t figure it out yet.

The Nexus DSC shouldn't be showing its IP address as 10.0.0.2. Did you change it?

On the Nexus DSC wifi set up first page you want

'Access Point'

'DHCP Disabled'

2nd page should show its IP as 10.0.0.1. The Nexus acts as a wifi router and should occupy this address. The Nexus will assign 10.0.0.x etc to any devices that connect.

On your tablet etc, make sure it is 10.0.0.1

Contact Serge at Astrodevices. He’s always been brilliant/swift responding to questions for me.

That is a clear sign that your IPad is not on the same network as your Nexus.  So on your ipad use it's wifi settings to find and join the Nexus wifi.  The IPad itself must be on that network.  Just having the IP address in SS5 settings is not enough.  It must of course match the Nexus IP network address however but only once the IPAD is also on that network.

Thanks to all that replied.

What an exercise in frustration… I read all comments and re visited both DSC devices. All the settings are as they were: 10.0.0.1, 255.255.255.0., 4060. The difference in that the iPad just connected is that I activated 5G on iPad. iPads always connected since fall 2017 (1st Nexus) then Dec 2019 (2nd Nexus). With no connection yesterday and this morning this was the first time iPad would not connect and by coincidence? The first time I had no cellular connection.

All I know for sure is cellular activated on iPad = success. No cell activation = failure to connect. I don’t know why this is the case. Both DSCs just connected. Serge suggested I label them as such, a few years ago:

NexusDSC Channel 3

NexusDSC1 Channel 7

Mazerski,

I didn't reply in time but was going to mention that some inactivated SIM cards from certain carriers will also block WiFi access which may be due to a related feature - WiFi Calling being disabled until cellular activation.

Glad you got it worked out.  Ed

Yes Ed good info.  My wife's IPAd is not a phone so no sim card so it always does wifi.  Never thought one would not.

On my Android phone, the "Do you still want to stay connected" message is usually the problem for me with internet-less wifi connections such as Nexus'.  If I choose "Yes, always stay connected", it just doesn't!  I have to select "Yes" each time for it to actually stay connected.  The only way I know of to reset that "Yes, always ..." is to forget the network, then rejoin it.  I usually keep data off on my phone to avoid SS Pro downloading 200+MB of rather useless data.
