I found a coule of Sears refractors. I e-mailed the gentleman, and he still has them. It is two scopes, but I am not sure what the other one is? That aqua colored one is the one I am after!! Here is a picture. Sorry...not that big. He said they are both Sears. He is asking 250.00 for all of it.

150.00 for all of it. They are both Sears scopes.....equatorial mount for sure on the aqua colored one. I am getting them. He says the lens is fine in the gren one, or both for that matter. I guess it is a roll of the dice no matter what.

Hi Greg,

They aqua colored one is a 60mm? Then I would bet the smaller one is a 50mm Alt-Az. The other tripod looks like metal, and I recall seeing a smaller 50mm Sears scope on a metal tripod on eBay not long ago. That could be what you have there.

I once bought a box of telescope parts with only tiny photos like you posted here to go by. I took a chance and bought it. I'm glad I did, the box contained the like-new heavy EQ-2 I now have. $250 might not be bad though - put the two scope packages together to make one really good one, keep the good package, and sell off the remainders on AM to help offset the cost of the one you keep. You can probably walk away with less than $200 investment for the good scope you keep.

Good luck and clear dark skies...

BTW - nothing of this type listed new on eBay as of about 9:00am.

Mike,

Going to pick up the scope this week. I actually get to drive and get it. About 2 hours. He said the 60mm green tube is in really good shape and that there are just scratches on the tube, but nothing bad. It has the heavy EQ mount with it. He said the smaller one is rough on the outside, but good lens. He is selling it all for 150.00 to me. I can't wait to see it. How could I go about repainting? Is there a color out there that would be close to matching it? I will need advice on restoring it!!

$150 sounds like a good deal. I have seen the 60mm kits in good shape sell for substantially more than that.

Welcome to the addictive world of vintage gear!

Yup. The bigger blue one's the 60mm f15, Good scope. The price for both sounds good too. Give your youngster the small one first and you guys can observe together and all that.

I wouldn't worry about repainting anything just yet. See how bad it is first. A few things you might do if you feel you need to 'fix' something, give the box a good cleaning with lemon oil, replace the felt in the box (if there is any) and on the tube clamp, give the tubes and equatorial gears a good cleaning with WD-40. Once clean, rub the tubes down with an old cotton T-shirt and put some silicone grease on the gears.

It certainly is addicting, isn't it?

Keith
