I was interviewed by CBS Texas about my experience getting cancelled on by Comfort Suites, Gatesville and them raising rates

I booked my RV reservation in February 2023. They charged my card and the site was confirmed. I check the website every month and the status has not changed. So I am good there, so far.

If you have experienced bait-and-switch, price gouging, or any other suspicious practice regarding lodgings in Texas, report it to the BBB.

We had our Airbnb cancel a month out after I sent a confirmation email. Found another at a slightly higher, though not gouging, rate. We’re close enough now to do it non refundable. Hopefully we’re good

The Super 8 in Killeen TX canceled my $95/night room a couple of months ago and re-offered the room at $1000. No thank you. Looks like they still have availability at that price. I thought of posting a 1-star review but decided their house, their rules.

Fortunately I’d booked 2 backups. I figure if they were going to pull a fast one they would have done it by now.

Ten months in advance, I booked two rooms at a nice B&B about 45 m. from centerline near DFW (also about 45 m. from airport).  I booked from April 5 to 9, and paid for the rooms in advance.  We were going to be a party of six people.  Sadly i had a serious cycling accident last week and due to my injuries, the entire expedition is called off.  The airfare is lost but maybe not the lodging, for which i also paid in advance.  if anyone here is looking for last minute lodging, please contact me.  i have no idea what the B&B might charge at this point, but my hope is that if i can find them some replacement tenants, they will refund my payments.

thanks.

I had 2 rooms booked at a Days Inn in Sikesville, MO and they were cancelled on Jan 31, 2024 without notification. The rooms were booked a year in advance for about $100 per night. I complained to Wyndham but all I got was an apology and suggested I contact the manager directly. They are a franchise. All rooms are booked and at $350 per night. I will no longer book rooms at a Wyndham hotels after this experience.

Even though there is no specific law, you can actually sue such a hotel in small claims court. If a hotel cancelled due to circumstances outside their control (eg fire, damage etc.,) then there would not be a case, but since they relisted the room, you can actually sue in small claims court. I think limit is 10,000$. If I were you I would find a lawyer.

Rental cars will be a HUGE fiasco IMO. I don't care if you have reservations I doubt it will matter. My son just came through Austin a month ago and they didn't have a car for him. What the heck is a "reservation" for then?  And there was nothing going on that week either.

Can only imagine when the city is packed.

If anyone still needs a place we have 587 acres still open for RVs and camping. Right next to a State Park between Lampasas and San Saba. Renting by the night versus a 4 day stay originally. Looks like most people will try to only stay one night or come for just a day. We try to tell them that's a mistake though.

E-mail me at 587Ranch@gmail.com. I do not check this webpage often enough.

BTW - Glad lots of you guys had the chance to snag those cheap camping spots at Barefoot a few months ago.

Does anybody need hotel accommodations or a reservation to stay in Uvalde, Texas? Uvalde is on the centerline of totality and has the longest duration of totality at 4 minutes, 16 seconds!  I have a reservation at the Uvalde Hampton Inn for 3 nights (4/6-4/9) that I will not be using.  Before I cancel it, I thought I'd offer it to someone here who can use it. The total rate is about $2,500 Please reach out to me at andrew.ricci@gmail.com.

There are camping spots available at the link, Heart of Texas in the hill country, about 20 miles from center line, immediate East/West highway access (two lane regular rd.)

You can contact me if the link doesn't work and I can fill you in or get you to some one in charge directly.

This is also my worry, and has been pretty much since I booked my car.  Does one have any recourse if the car rental place doesn't honor the rental like one has if a flight is canceled or something (I mean, obviously you're screwed either way, but as far as alternate accomodations or something)?  I'm going to research this.  If I don't have a car, I lose my place to stay (90 minutes away from DFW), and I don't know what I'd do as my return flight isn't until two days later-- not like I could find another place close to the airport or something, and not like I could make them get me a car from a competitor as they'll all have the same issue...

Texas Star Party dot org is having a huge eclipse event at a private resort not far from Waco in the path. Had space available last week. Not sure about today. I am hoping to meet up with someone who is a wiz with Eclipse Orchestrator to go over my settings a day or  two ahead of the eclipse if anyone is around.

I booked a bunk at TSP Lantham Springs at last minute for about $900.

4 nights and meals.  They are closed to reservations at this time.

Even though I live in Austin with 3 minutes of totality, I thought why not?

Most of my friends are staying home and watching from their driveway.

I feel sorry for all of you having trouble with duplicitous hotel owners

and car rentals with canceled early reservations.

I saw this happen in Missouri in 2017.  Hotels were overbooked in Missouri, and I had paid in advance.

We arrived early in the day and secured the room.  I showed them my printed receipt.

Later arrivals slept in the parking lot.

I just checked my VRBO reservation that I made 15 months ago with the property host and I'm good to go. I've got all of my door codes.

I know the weather isn't looking great right now but there are two cabins left at Lone Star Cabins which is in between Stonewall and Fredericksburg. This is on Rt 290 just shy of the centerline.  Cabins are behind two wineries (share the same property) and across the street from a large German brewer/pub/restaurant.

I wanted to share a positive experience today from Choice hotel in Boerne. I reserved a 4 night block in Jan 2024 and was given a 30 day free cancellation policy which expired in March.  I called tonight to get options now to modify to just Sunday and Monday nights wanting to hold those just in case.  When i did that a new 24 hr cancellation policy was unexpectedly applied so in theory now, i may cancel those days also  by Sat afternoon for free!

Maybe my experience to modify first before making a full cancel hoping for a new free cancel time will work for someone else and avoid a late cancel charge.     Clear skies!

I am stunned.  These prices are simply outrageous.  I sincerely hope they are worth it.  $2500.00 for three days at a Holiday Inn?  And the descriptions of completely unscrupulous behavior.  Anyone who does not leave a bunch of 1 star reviews is doing the world a disservice.  Shameful behavior from shameful people.

Will chaos reports be posted here?  Or is there another thread for stories that should be firing up soon?

Hope everyone has a great time though.

I'll put in another plug for Hampton Inn Sulphur Springs-- reasonable rate ($124/night, IIRC), was not canceled.  If I'm ever back that way, I know where I'm staying.
