I recently bought a 1982 C8 orange tube. It came with a camera mount, but I thought it could be cool to try to add binoculars on top. I was wondering if it could support the weight of about 3.5 pounds or more.

It would be sitting on the original mount.

My main concerns is if it would strip or mess up the motors somehow.

Thank you,

Conor

The counterweight set for the old c8s are about 3 3/4 lbs, so it should be fine.

I think your goal is to piggyback a bin on the OTA itself, is that your objective?

When doing that, the bin will be at some positions very awkward/uncomforatble to use due the rotation of the OTA...

Better try a little telescope on it. With that you can rotate the EP position in a way you can observe more comfortable.

Try it by making a dummy bin with two tubes and a little ductape then you will experience what i trying to say cool.gif

I know it might be a little uncomfortable but I just wanted to see if it would work. I would take it off if the object wasn't in a good position.

That binocular idea isn't that bad too.lol.gif

I might try to find an old c5 to piggyback it somewhere down the road.

Thanks,

Conor
