Hello M2C owners. Ive owned mine for about 4 weeks. I have a SW 100ED mounted on it and love it but I love it even more after I noticed something and gave it some thought. After viewing some photos on here I noticed some users have the Alt knob on the left hand side and some on the right. So what I noticed was, for left handers, the Alt knob was closer to them than if used on right. So what I did was super easy. I removed the knob, washer/bearing stack, then slid off the shaft and saddle assembly. I then inserted a dowel rod and gently tapped out the teflon bushings and large washer and then installed it on the other side. I put everything back together. Now the Alt knob is about an inch closer to me and much easier to reach up for a quick on the fly adjustment. Here is a before and after shot, notice the position of the Alt knob.

Hello, yes they are v-drums with a TD-20 head. I put together this kit years ago and absolutely love it!

I believe that the M2C can be used from either direction--- no need to mod.

It can be mounted either way but the Alt knob will be further from you, depending how it was assembled at the factory so the mod is needed if you want it closer.

I have this very mount. I think it would help if the after picture was taken from the same perspective as the before pic.

But I think I see what you did - you also moved or had to flip the plate or wall on the side of the alt knob in order to move it closer, correct?

I took a better picture, now you can see the postion of the alt knob more clearly. When I took everything off, I just rotated the cube 180°

Hello Fasteddie5150,

Thank you for posting, it may help others. I will bet that this situation has not really occured to most M002C users until you mentioned it and some people will realize now, they have a problem that they will need to address. lol.gif  This is one of the more fun aspects of the Astro Sport, modding your equipment to fit your viewing  needs or viewing style. For what ever reason, one is certainly as good as the other, I prefer my scopes positioned on the right side of the mount head. If I position the scope on the left side, it does not feel proper, odd thing that it is but it works for me. The scope will certainly work just as well on the other side. After tweaking the clutches on all of my Alt /Az mounts to that certain sweet spot, I have never had to fiddle with the clutches again. Over time I have I have altered my thoughts on just how much clutch tention is perfect for my taste and have learned to like the cluches set quite a bit tighter than when I started out.

HAPPY SKIES TO YOU AND KEEP LOOKING UP Jethro

Mine came from the factory in the configuration you modded yours to.

It’s not just a matter of how far away the alt knob is—having it on the “correct” side also sets the alt axis rearward, which (depending on scope and on height of column) enables that additional bit of scope rotation toward vertical/zenith before the OTA or focuser contacts the tripod.

Exactly, I noticed that too, well said!
